MAMATA  &  TMC & BENGAL

SARASIJ MAJUMDER

 

As on today—the above three are inseparable.

A> First—let us understand the strength of Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.

1.0 In Politics of street fighting, and Andolan:-- She is the best. Late Mr. Jyoti Basu advised Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattachariya never to allow MB this opportunity. This is where Buddha Babu lost in Nandigram yielding place to TMC, and SINGUR WAS FATAL.

2.0 No body understands better about manipulation of the Election Conduction system, and how to exploit it for the party. She can even get counting manipulated!

3.0 Politically—extremely CUNNING, and SLY. Nobody is anywhere near her in India.

4.0 Doesn’t hesitate to initiate short duration TERRORISM,  THREAT.....etc.

5.0 Very competent in starting  “DHARNA” and “DRAMA”—using right people at the right time.

6.0 TMC was caught UNAWARE by BJP in 2019, but responded very effectively in 2021, and 2024.

B> I will explain below in order of merits,  WHY MAMATA WINS,   which you may, or may not agree.

1.0  The Muslim Appeasement Politics:--

You see, this is such a TRAP, that BJP LEADERS also  failed to avoid it,  albeit—with no results. I will discuss on BJP’S MUSLIM APPEASEMENT later.

Perhaps no other politician knows the tricks of Muslim Appeasement better than Mamata Didi. The Muslim population percentage in West Bengal is more than double the national average. Mamata Banerjee knew very well that in order to script a victory against the opposition, she needs to keep her Muslim Votes intact. Bengal’s Muslims were already made alarmed by the ghosts of CAA or NRC, and UCC. Mamata, as a cunning politician added, and adding  fuel to that fire. She made sure that this growing discontentment against the centre ( i.e. BJP)  can be converted into a near complete mass polarization of Muslim votes in favour of the TMC. She doled out a number of welfare schemes designed exclusively to woo the masses of the Muslim  community resulting in a total consolidation of Muslim votes in her favour making her a messiah of the community.

She pays less—but gets back more in return!!

2.0 TMC 's Organizational strength:-

West Bengal has a peculiar society, where political parties occupy a significant public space which sometimes overwhelmingly dominate the so called social organizations like caste or creed or religious affinities. It is not surprising that the party with the better organizational strength has a significant advantage.

This peculiar feature of Bengali politics has been there ,since last two and a half decade of the Left Front’s rule which was aptly carried forward by Mamata Banerjee which not only ensured her victory but also added to her popularity. This  is in spite of the fact, that there was serious discontent in the mind of the masses due to the swelling economic crisis and resultant job losses which was a regular feature both in the reign of CPIM as well as in the regime of Mamata Banerjee.

By giving donation to CLUBS, allowing TOLABAZI, and  SYNDYCATE—TMC has very good, if not absolute  control over otherwise UN-EMPLOYED  ( and UN- EMPLOYABLE) Bengali youth. This covers Hindus.

In comparison-- BJP has almost negligible Organizational Strength in Bengal. Strong organization is needed to win Election, and Mamata will not allow BJP to develop it in Bengal.

Mamata’s Welfare Schemes:-

The unwritten condition is—if you support TMC, then only you will get the benefit.

They are by far the single biggest factor behind her general popularity. Since the time of coming to power in Bengal the TMC led by Banerjee has turbocharged the welfare schemes. This includes regular cash transfers to the accounts of girls till they get married along with unemployment sops for young citizens and scholarship for Dalits and the minorities. She also doled out pensions for old age and widows. In fact, a well renowned professor of economics has attributed the growth rate in the states rural per capita consumption mainly  to her welfare schemes.

THE MESSIAH OF WOMEN:

She astutely judged, that in order to remain in power, she needs to woo the women voters of Bengal, who comprise almost half of its population. A significant lead in the women vote share will definitely going to bring her reach dividends. Therefore, she began designing women welfare schemes which provided direct transfer of cash to female hands. As a result of which, the 47% of women vote share of Bengal went exclusively in her favour making her a champion of their cause.

To bolster this, she includes a high dose of Cinema & TV actresses in her electoral roll. You can see those faces in Parliament, and in Assembly.

HER  ELECTORAL  and POLITICAL IMAGE

She is the tallest political leader at present  in Bengal beyond any shadow of doubt. She enjoys a massive 57% approval rate as chief minister. Her proactive nature and a continuous and a cleverly designed belligerent attitude against the incumbent Modi Government have bolstered her appeal as a mass leader and a street fighter.

In TMC, she is the single POST, Bhaipo is half post-- others are LAMP POSTS!

BENGALI EXCEPTIONALISM

The TMC, in general,  and Mamata Banerjee in particular does not have any specific ideological entity till recently. To counter the Hindu nationalism, which is  identity of BJP, Mamata cleverly devised the ploy of Bengali Nationalism and Exceptionalism. She successfully painted the BJP as a party of outsiders( BAHIRAGATO ). It did provide her with an opportunity to take on BJPs brand of Hindutva.

In fact, it was such a cleverly designed ploy that at one point  of time Mr Amit Shah had to clarify that a Gujarati would not form the Government in Bengal but it would consist of Bengalis .

MY CONCLUSSION:-- As long as ELECTION CONDUCTION uses Police of West Bengal, and State Employees of West  Bengal, and conduct Election under TMC as State Government--- BJP can’t win. It is proved during 2021, and 2024.
