I explain as follows:- Agricultural Bill : India consumes around 2.4 million metric tons of lentils annually, but local production is only 1.6 million tons. For some years India was importing Lentil from Canada, and Australia. This started in 2005, during the time of UPA. Government data shows that in 2022-23 India imported 4.85 lakh tonnes from Canada. Since then, Modi started reducing it, and now he has started sourcing it from other countries. India is increasing import of Lentils from Australia, and even imported from Russia. The overall domestic pulses production also has increased in the recent time. This Canadian import business was totally in the hand of Khalistanis in Canada, and Punjab. This got partially hit.
