HAMDARD PRODUCTS THE CLAIMS & REALITY SARASIJ MAJUMDER Hamdard Laboratories (India) is a Unani pharmaceutical and food company. It was established in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Delhi, and became a waqf (non-profitable trust) in 1948. Some of its most popular products include Sharbat Rooh Afza, Safi, Rogan Badam Shirin, Sualin, Joshina and Cinkara. Unani came to India with Delhi Sultanate, and progressed further during ‘Mughal’ period. It competes with ‘Ayurvedic Medicines’ in the ‘Alternate Medicine Sector’—but popular with mainly Muslims, and some simpletons.
