OPERATION SINDOOR

ECONOMIC LOSSES OF PAKISTAN

SARASIJ MAJUMDER

It will be difficult for Pakistan to come out of the loss it suffered in this 4-day KINETIC WAR, fought only in the airspace, involving Fighter Jets, Missiles, and DRONES as attacking weapons.

Pakistan claims that J-10C jets, equipped with PL-15 missiles, were used in combat, and that they downed multiple Indian Rafale and other fighter jets. GOI has not accepted any loss of Fighter Jet. No image of Rafael lost is available.

GOI is not declaring the HITS it inflicted upon Pakistan.

Even then, I have pieced together the information and provided a picture.

A. The expenses due to direct losses of HARDWARE may be divided into the following items: -

1.0 Fighter Jets: -- May be 10 Numbers. 4-F16 as a combat loss. 2 Nos. Mirage 2000 and 4 Nos. F16, possibly due to the hit it received when parked on the Air Bases. However, this figure could be more. Pakistan's retired Air Marshal Masood Akhtar publicly admitted on camera that the country's vital Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft sustained damage during India's recent precision strikes under Operation Sindoor. The total cost of this loss may be USD 400MM, considering depreciated values.

2.0 Missiles: -- Pakistan has fired at least 400 missiles, including 2 Shaheen-3, and at least a few P-15. On the conservative (Less side), the total expenses on this account could be USD 375 MM. Many Pakistani missiles didn’t explode. On 8th May, they fired about 300 Missiles. But later the number came down.

3.0 DRONES: -- Pakistan, most likely, fired about 600 DRONES, mostly made by TURKEY, and 400 Nos. were   Asisguard Songers. The total cost on account of this may be $ 50 MM.

4.0 Air Défense System: - India has destroyed two HQ-9 systems (equivalent to S-300), other types of air Défense systems and RADARS. I will place the total cost on account of these at about USD $400MM.

B. INFRASTRUCTURE: --

The items are 9 Terror Camps, 26 Bunkers at Borders, and 11 Air Bases having buildings, tunnels, runways, Launchpads, bunkers, heavy foundations and Hangers are the main components destroyed, or suffered damage.

I have worked out seeing the damaged images, and available information on dimensions. I know some structural details of these components. Also—cost data are available in internet. Accordingly—it works out to $300/- as a damage loss.

C. Operating Cost: -- Pakistan must have kept systems in Alert, and Operational mode at least from 21/04/2025, or a few days before.

It may be still operational. It is about Average $15.0MM per day. For one month, as of now—it works out to $450MM.

I have ignored the additional expenses for enhancement of Military at BORDER.

REBUILDING: -

Building a new air base with an integrated air Défense system can cost anywhere from $300 million to billions, depending on the size, features, and technological complexity of the air Défense system.

Assuming an average of $150 million/damaged Base for Rebuilding, Upgrading, and modernising, it may cost about $1.65 Billion!

Hence, the final number is as below:

1.0  Cost of War, including Asset loss, and operational Cost:-$1,975MM, or $2.0 Billion. This could be more.

2.0  Rebuilding, Repair, including Asset Replacement:- $ 1.65 Billion.

3.0  40 Nos.J-35 Pakistan contracted to buy from China: $2.5 Billion, considering 50% Discount.

4.0  I assume that the maintenance cost of the Nuclear armament storage and system all complete, is borne by the USA. Otherwise, that is about $2.0 billion per year for about 150 no’s Nuclear warheads, carrier, mating system, testing, etc., all complete.
