GENESIS OF 'PAKISTAN'
SARASIJ MAJUMDER
Two Muslims can be credited for the generation of concept of
‘PAKISTAN’.
One is generator of TWO NATION theory, and the other is Ch.
Rahmat Ali.
SYED AHMED KHAN:
REF:-“Roots of Muslim separatism in Colonial India (17th
century–1940s) ---M. S. Jain and others”--- have traced the origins of the two
nation-theory to Syed Ahmed Khan and the Aligarh
Movement, consisting of his followers such as Mohsin-ul-Mulk. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817-1898)
founded the Aligarh Movement to improve the social and intellectual status of
Muslims in British India. The movement's main goal was to introduce
Western education to Muslims. He, and his followers later started PROPAGATING, AND PROMOTING THE
‘TWO NATION THEORY’.
He spoke this to
British Governor, at Lucknow—from which British identified the existing ‘Fissure’
and conceived the ‘Divide and Rule’ policy, and implemented.
Unfortunately, originally—Mr. Khan was a ‘Nationalist’ –
later through a thought process got converted to a ‘Separatist’, and started promoting ‘TWO
NATION THEORY’.
However—fruitful result of that movement was ‘Aligarh Muslim
University’ came into existence.
CHAUDHRY REHMAT ALI GUJJAR:
Chaudhry Rehmat Ali Gujjar was a Punjabi Muslim who was one
of the early supporters of the establishment of the state of Pakistan…He
is also credited as the creator of the name "Pakistan" to establish
the “present day Pakistan” and is remembered as the founder of the
Pakistan Movement. But, nobody took him seriously then, and ‘Muslim League’
discarded his theory.
Theodore Beck, who played a major role in founding of
the All-India Muslim League in 1906, was
supportive of two-nation theory. Another British official includes Theodore
Morison. Both Beck and Morison believed that parliamentary system of
majority rule would be disadvantageous for the Muslims.
CH Rehmat Ali is known as the author of the famous
pamphlet " Now or Never , Are we to live or Perish
forever? " The pamphlet is known as the Pakistan Declaration…The
pamphlet begins with a famous statement--
" In this important period of India's history when the
British and Indian politicians are going to lay the foundations of a federal
constitution for this country we address each other through this appeal in the
name of our common heritage “on behalf of our three crore Muslim
brothers” Those who live in (today’s) Pakistan…Which refers to the five
north-western units of India : Punjab, Afghania (FATA Regions), Kashmir,
Sindh, and Baluchistan.
He later wrote a book I read, and referred hereunder reference.
Chaudhry Rahmat Ali was the most important figure for the concept of Pakistan.
The "Pakistan Declaration" pamphlet written and published
by Choudhary Rahmat Ali on 28 January 1933. The pamphlet was
later circulated to the Muslim delegates of the Third Round Table Conference.
He lived in Britain for most of his adult life…He returned
to Pakistan in April 1948 planning to stay in his country after the
establishment of Pakistan…But because of the partition of Punjab and
the non-inclusion of Kashmir in Pakistan he was less happy with a
smaller Pakistan than the one proposed in his pamphlet " Now or Never Are
We to Live or Perish Forever? " in 1933 and also announced in the Lahore
Resolution of 1940, when Mr. Jinnah got it approved by ‘Muslim League’.
Therefore due to the partition of Punjab and
non-inclusion of Kashmir in Pakistan…an incomplete Pakistan and
inclusion of part of Bengal in Pakistan and accepting Muhajir (Indian immigrants) peoples (UP ,MP ,
& Bihari Muslims of Indian Origin) in government jobs and politics of
Pakistan, he began to express his extreme dissatisfaction over the creation of
an PARTIAL PAKISTAN.
In his pamphlet he proposed a Muslim homeland called
"Bangistan" (the then BENGAL and India’s 7 sisters) for the Muslims
of Bengal. He further proposed a Muslim country called "Osmanistan"
for the Muslims of the Deccan and UP.
As a result Chaudhary Rahmat Ali was declared a
traitor to Pakistan by the Urdu-speaking Indian refugee Prime
Minister Liaquat Ali Khan who belonged to the Uttar Pradesh of
India and ordered him to leave Pakistan and his belongings were
confiscated.
An early supporter of the establishment of the state of
Pakistan, the founder of the Pakistan Movement, the creator of the name
Pakistan, the author of a famous pamphlet of 1933 ″Now or Never Are We to Live
or Perish Forever?” – CH. Rahmat Ali, 14 months after the
establishment of Pakistan was declared a traitor to Pakistan .
Yes, Chaudhry Rahmat Ali was declared a traitor of Pakistan!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!
And he had the fortune to stay for only six months ( APRIL’48—OCTOBER’48) in Pakistan and left
for Britain empty-handed in October 1948.
He died in February 1951 and was buried on 20 February in
Newmarket Road Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
