Government asks states to adhere to timelines
after launch of Waqf portal: Only properties registered as waqf
with the state boards will be able to upload their details for verification and
get a 17-number unique ID on the new Central Waqf Portal launched by govt on
Friday. This also applies to “waqf by user” properties that existed prior to
the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 coming into force on April 8.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Army has launched
Operation Shiva, a comprehensive security initiative to provide foolproof
security to the 38-day-long Amarnath Yatra, slated to commence on July 3.

Maharashtra government cancels approvals for 903
projects. Schemes that are not operational due to land acquisition issues,
local opposition, or lack of cooperation from contractors will be cancelled to
prevent misallocation of funds.
WORLD:
A. U.S.
President Donald Trump said yesterday that he had a "very positive"
call with Chinese President Xi Jinping and that their trade teams would meet "shortly." China’s tightening of restrictions on rare
earth exports has rippled across global manufacturing. Multiple European
auto sector plants suspended output this week. Trump wrote on social media that the call resolved questions
about “the complexity of Rare Earth products,” without giving details.

NATO agreed yesterday to expand its ground-based air Défense
capabilities five-fold, Bloomberg reported. The move came as German Chancellor
Friedrich Merz was at the White House seeking a more active U.S. role in
pressuring Russia toward peace in Ukraine.
C.
Washington announced sanctions on four International Criminal
Court (ICC) judges yesterday, calling recent ICC investigations of Israel’s war
conduct in Gaza and the United States’ war conduct in Afghanistan
“illegitimate.” The court condemned the sanctions, which it called “a clear
attempt to undermine” its independence.
D.
North Korea will “unconditionally support” Russia’s war against Ukraine, North Korean leader
Kim Jong-un pledged during a meeting with Russia’s security council secretary
in Pyongyang. Both countries acknowledged in April that North Korean troops had
been deployed to participate in Russia's war in Ukraine; last October the
Pentagon estimated they numbered around ten thousand.

New Delhi is holding talks with companies about creating a
long-term reserve of rare earth magnets and is considering tax breaks for firms
that produce the magnets domestically, unnamed sources told Reuters. If
successful, the stockpile would reduce India’s reliance on China.

Israel has “activated” some groups inside of Gaza to oppose Hamas,
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday after the news was leaked by a
political opponent. Unnamed Israeli officials told Ynet that one such militia

Ghana yesterday became the latest country
to endorse Morocco’s plan to settle the disputed status
of the Western Sahara region, where Algeria-backed separatists seek
independence. The plan—which is backed by Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United
States—would allow Morocco to maintain sovereignty over the region but give it
greater autonomy.

China approved more coal power plant capacity in the
first quarter of 2025 than it did in the first half of 2024, according to a new
Greenpeace report.

The African Union urged dialogue and called for the United States to protect its borders in
a way that is “balanced, evidence-based, and reflective of the longstanding
partnership between the United States and Africa”.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has declared the 1972 Simla Agreement “a dead
document,” signalling a seismic shift in Islamabad’s posture on Kashmir. In a
blunt televised statement, Asif said Pakistan has reverted to the 1948
UN-backed stance, calling the Line of Control a ceasefire line rather than a

growing presence of Sharia councils, with reports indicating that there are now
85 Islamic councils operating across the country. These councils primarily
handle marriage and divorce rulings, attracting Muslims from Europe and North
America who seek religious decisions on family matters. A State within a State with

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today conducted raids at
over 15 locations in Mumbai and Kochi, including the residences of actor Dino
Morea, his brother, and several contractors, in connection with a 65 crore
rupees money laundering case linked to the Mithi River desilting scam.

Tamil Nadu government has established a Greater Flamingo
Sanctuary at Dhanushkodi, coinciding with World Environment Day. This sanctuary

RBI reduced the repo rate under the liquidity adjustment
facility (LAF) from 6.0 per cent to 5.5 per cent. The Standing Deposit Facility
(SDF) rate now stands at 5.25 per cent, while the Marginal Standing Facility
(MSF) rate and the Bank Rate are set at 5.75 per cent. This move is aimed at
easing borrowing costs and supporting economic growth, amid signs of moderating
