Geneva, 18 December 2025: The year 2025 emerged as the deadliest year for journalists since the beginning of the century, after 2024. According to the tally of the Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), 161 media professionals were killed in 31 countries (179 in 2024). At least 60 journalists were killed in the Gaza Strip, almost all of them victims of Israeli strikes. Since the start of hostilities triggered by Hamas on 7 October 2023, at least 221 Palestinian media personnel have been killed in Gaza (81 in 2023, 80 in 2024, 60 in 2025). The war between Ukraine and Russia has resulted in the deaths of nine journalists, who were killed by either Ukrainian or Russian fire. Three Ukrainian journalists were killed, as was French journalist Antoni Lallican in Ukraine, and five Russian journalists were killed by Ukrainian fire in the border regions (in Ukraine and Russia).

10 men arrested for Hindu man's lynching in Bangladesh. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)  have arrested these 10 men in connection with the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu youth, in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh.

 A Pakistani court sentenced the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years imprisonment each in the Toshakhana 2 corruption case. The case is about alleged fraud in state gifts, which the former first couple received from the Saudi government in 2021.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has moved the Delhi High Court, challenging the trial court order that declined to take cognisance of money laundering complaint against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others in the National Herald case. In its petition, the ED has questioned the findings of the trial court and sought appellate review of the decision refusing to proceed with the agency’s complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized ₹4.68 crore in cash, gold bars worth ₹8.07 crore, and silver bars valued at about ₹6.42 crore during searches at 13 locations across Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi in connection with a money laundering investigation in the “Donkey Route” case linked to illegal immigration into the United States.
