The Ministry of Tribal Affairs  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in New Delhi. Indian Army engineers are working to restore road connectivity between the central and Uwa provinces in Sri Lanka. The U.S. bombings and raid in Caracas reportedly killed at least forty people, thirty-two of them Cuban security personnel. Venezuela’s Supreme Court named Delcy Rodríguez—formerly Maduro’s vice president—acting president on Saturday. SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:

Study suggests ancient Indian scholars knew mineral acids centuries before Europeans could find it.

Examining classical Indian texts written before the 8th century CE, the scientists have also questioned the belief that Arab alchemists first developed mineral acids after the 9th century.

A study published in the Indian Journal of History of Science a few months ago has challenged long-held beliefs about the origins of mineral acids, suggesting that ancient Indian scholars may have understood and used them centuries before similar knowledge appeared in Europe or the Arab world.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

The Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy matter, saying there was a prima facie case against the accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

In Under-19 Cricket, India defeated hosts South Africa by 8 wickets through the DLS method in the second Youth ODI of the three-match series at the Willow Moore Park in Benoni. Delhi Government signs an MoU with the Reserve Bank of India.  Delhi Chief Minister’s office said that the MoU enables the RBI to function as the banker, debt manager, and financial agent of the Government of Delhi.

The first meeting of the Payments Regulatory Board (PRB) was held in Mumbai  under the chairmanship of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The Board was constituted following amendments to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, which came into effect on 9th May last year.
