Sanskrit phrase "यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः" (Yato Dharmastato Jayaḥ) from the Mahabharata translates to "Where there is Dharma (righteousness/justice), there is Victory". It is a well-known verse with 13 occurrences in the epic, associated with the principle that moral conduct triumphs.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister approved the construction of new coastal Highway from Rameshwar to Paradeep on Hybrid Annuity Model.

In Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Thursday (June 4, 2026) announced it will boycott the upcoming meeting of the INDIA bloc parties, scheduled to be held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on June 8, 2026.

India  announced a phased expansion of ethanol dispensing infrastructure with 500 flex-fuel retail pumps planned by the end of 2026 and about 5,000 outlets targeted by the end of 2027. The plan is linked to flex-fuel vehicles and higher ethanol blends in petrol under the country’s biofuel and transport fuel framework.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated a standardised vegan logo for approved vegan food packages from 1 July 2027.

BENGAL FILES:

·         Ritabrata Banerjee is Appointed as LoP: Speaker Ratindra Bose formally recognized rebel TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition. This legally validates a massive breakaway faction signed by 59 dissident MLAs, stripping Mamata Banerjee’s camp of its official opposition status.

·         Signature Forgery Row: The rebellion exploded after signature fraud allegations emerged.  Abhishek Banerjee has moved the Calcutta High Court to challenge these allegations.

·         KMC Mayor Resigns: Adding to the MAMATA’s troubles, Firhad Hakim has officially resigned from his post as the Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

🏛️ Government & Welfare Policy Updates

·         Annapurna Yojana Launched: Urban Development and Welfare Minister Agnimitra Paul formally launched the scheme from Nabanna alongside CM Shuvendu Adhikari. In its initial phase, 28 lakh beneficiaries began receiving ₹3,000 directly into their bank accounts.

·         Cabinet Portfolios & Promises: CM  Adhikari is chairing critical Council of Ministers meetings at Nabanna to distribute department portfolios and review electoral promises. High-priority agendas include the implementation of Ayushman Bharat and the 7th Pay Commission for state employees.

·         Ration Card Verification: The state government has launched a strict verification drive backed by SIR metrics to identify and eliminate invalid or fraudulent ration cards.

Infrastructure Developments

·         Kolkata Water Metro: The West Bengal government partnered with the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to unveil an infrastructure roadmap, officially introducing a modern Water Metro service along Kolkata's river channels.

·         Tajpur Port Shift: The proposed deep-sea port project at Tajpur has reportedly hit a dead end, prompting the state administration to offer Dadanpatrabar as an alternative pitch to the Adani Group.

🚨 Law & Order Updates

·         NIA Raids in Bhangar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its search operations, raiding the residence and offices of former TMC leader Saukat Molla in connection with a fatal March bomb blast case. Molla is underground.

·         Kolkata Arrest: Extortion and molestation charges led Kolkata Police to arrest senior TMC leader Swarup Biswas, following a complaint filed by a local woman.

·         CID started signature verification process, and recording statements of MLAs.

·         FIR is lodged against Mamata Banerjee. During a protest on Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee publicly addressed the murder case of Bangladeshi activist Sharif Osman Bin Hadi linking INDIA.

·         The Allegations: Banerjee claimed she possessed inside information regarding the cross-border murder and alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah personally contacted her to suppress the arrests in "National Interest".

·         Legal Charges: The complaint states her speech directly undermines India's internal security, impacts diplomatic ties with Bangladesh, and targets central constitutional bodies. The complainant is moving to  the Calcutta High Court to seek her immediate arrest.

US President Donald Trump said the US could retrieve Iran’s “entombed” enriched uranium stockpiles “right now”, but he added that “there’s no reason to”.

President Trump said he spoke to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah about the situation in Lebanon and that “progress” had been made.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem denounced ceasefire negotiations between Lebanon and Israel as “shameless”, describing the agreement brokered by Washington as a “roadmap to annihilate part of the Lebanese people”.

The United Nations said it was investigating an attack that killed one UNIFIL peacekeeper and injured two in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military said a soldier was killed by a Hezbollah missile in southern Lebanon.

World Environment Day 2026 is observed on June 5 with the theme “Inspired by Nature: For Climate. For Our Future.” Hosted by Azerbaijan, the global event highlights climate action, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation.

MISHAPS:

The death toll in the fire incident at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has risen to five.

The recent forest fire incident in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh highlighted the critical role of aerial firefighting technologies in the disaster management. To contain the rapidly spreading blaze, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed Mi-17 V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets and conducted more than 150 sorties and spraying approximately 62,500 litres of water.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:

The Software Development Institute of Indian Air Force in Bengaluru has designed, developed and deployed a super Dimona aircraft simulator for the National Defence Academy. The Air Force Training Team at NDA will use it to familiarise the cadets with basic flying aspects along with necessary knowledge of the flying environment.

 NASA has officially ended the MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) mission after more than 11 years in orbit around Mars.

CLIMATE:

The Southwest monsoon officially arrived in India on June 4, marking its onset in Kerala, days after the Indian Meteorological Department predicted its arrival. Notably, this year’s monsoon was delayed by three days, since it generally starts by June 1.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

 A local court on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) remanded Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, former Group MD of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications, in the custody of the CBI till June 5 in an alleged bank loan fraud case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting massive search operations across nine spots in the border town of Champhai along the Mizoram-Myanmar frontier yesterday. The agency said the major crackdown is targeting a highly organised cross-border network involved in the large-scale smuggling of illegal Burmese supari (dry Areca nuts) into India.

The inaugural edition of the World Yogasana Sports Championship is being held at the Eka Arena in Ahmedabad. This is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Sports Authority of India.
