In the Indian electoral system, SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision. It is a special drive launched by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that the electoral rolls (voter lists) are accurate, complete, and up to date. The purpose of this process is to include eligible voters who may have been left out and to remove names of those who are no longer eligible, such as deceased or shifted persons. Background:- I have read in papers, and heard many TV shows/ YOU -TUBES on hike of LPG price, and decided to investigate.

  • The Union Cabinet on Tuesday-29-08-2023 approved reduction in prices of LPG cooking gas cylinders by Rs 200 for all connection holders.
  • Effective from today, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 across the country. In Delhi, for instance, the decision will bring down the cost from the existing Rs 1,103 to Rs 903. Domestic LPG cylinder prices were last revised on March 1, when they were hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder.
  • The government in October 2022 provided a one-time grant of Rs 22,000 crore to  oil companies to cover for the losses they had incurred on selling LPG at below cost in the previous two years.

1 Non-subsidized LPG is  cheaper under NDA  than under UPA!!
