BJP FACE IN DELHI STATE ELACTION

SARASIJ MAJUMDER

There are a number of leaders who could get the nod, but Union minister Harsh Vardhan and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari are the front-runners, as per BJP source. With Harsh Vardhan as  CM face, the BJP won 33 seats previously in the Delhi assembly, but fell short of the majority mark, opening the door for newcomer Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party to form the government with help from the Congress.

Manoj Tiwari:-Bhojpuri superstar-turned-politician Tiwari is  the current president of the Delhi BJP and the MP from North East Delhi. His Purvanchal connection is what makes him attractive as a CM face since Delhi has more than 50 lakh voters who have emigrated from that region of eastern UP and Bihar. These voters have considerable influence on over 20 of Delhi’s 70 seats.

Keeping this demography in mind, the Narendra Modi government has regularised 1,735 unauthorised colonies, which had been pending for years.

Tiwari’s appointment as the Delhi BJP chief in 2016 was TACTICAL, considering that the city is dominated by Punjabis and traders. A senior leader said the party had consistently won 32 or 33 per cent of the vote-share in 2008, 2013 and 2015, “so if we catch 10 per cent of the Purvanchali vote, we can come to power”.

Other names are not worth for review.

Gautam Gambhir

The cricketer-turned-MP from East Delhi is popular among the youth. He had said last October that being named the CM candidate would be a dream come true and an honour for him.

Gambhir is a Brahmin by caste, which, opponents in the party  think, will not be numerically sound choice. But a BJP leader gave the example of Haryana, where Manohar Lal Khattar was named the CM in 2014 despite belonging to the numerically weak Punjabi community.

In my opinion, BJP will do well if they  select Gautam Gambhir as face, he is also one of the short listed CM faces of BJP for DELHI.

But let us make a SWOT analysis between Present CM, and GATI:-

1.0 We need a Face. In Delhi— as it will be almost a BI-POLAR election:--AAP Vs. BJP. Congress is out of equation. AAP’s CM face is AK-49, DENTED by SCAMS, and Painted by ADVERTISEMENTS. Gautam Gambhir, on the other hand will be a candidate who will equate easily with Delhi vive, sentiment, and public.

2.0 AK-49 is having corruption charges on SHEESHMAHAL SCAM, with one foot towards TIHAR. Gautam Gambhir is speck clean.

3.0 AK-49 is a failure as a LEADER. Gambhir is a proven Leader.

4.0 AK-49’s strength is bribing voters with FREEBIES, and creating a MUFFTKHOR population. GAMBHIR’s strength is implementing welfare schemes.

5.0 While AK-49 is got matured in practice of  CORRUPTION, Gambhir has matured as an HONEST  mass leader.

6.0 From a semi state like Delhi, Gambhir can be groomed administratively for a higher responsibility later. Say—Sports Minister at centre. He is having a right kind of MIND.

Alternately—if BJP relies on VOTE BANK POLITICS—Manoj Kumar could be a winning candidate.

Hence:- My order of Preference:-

1.0- Gambhir.

2.0 Manoj
