SECULAR CIVIL CODE

SURVEY ON ACCEPTANCE IN INDIA

To understand what the Muslim women think of the provisions that are likely to be at the core of a UCC,   SCC=SECULAR CIVIL CODE , a word coined by P.M. in his address on 15th August from LAL QILLA,  884 reporters from the News18 network interviewed 8,035 Muslim women across 25 states and Union Territories (then UCC only). It was not a poll done on social media. Every participant was personally reached by a reporter.

The respondents represented a cross-section of female Muslims across different demographics. The survey participants included those 18 years and above to those upto 65 years of age. Right from the illiterate to the post-graduate, the survey captured a wide educational diversity.

Saudi Arabia, the birthplace and seat of Islam, has embarked on a Hadith documentation project ordered by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman. 

Many educated, modern Islamic Countries may join hands.

Here are some astounding statistics from that survey in INDIA:

  • 71% of Muslim women said that Muslim men should not be allowed to marry 4 women.
  • 78% of women want equal rights in inheriting their parents' properties.
  • 69% of them want equal rights for men and women with marrying after divorce
  • 62% want equal rights for men and women with respect to adopting children.
  • 67% of the women want the right to give their property as free will to anyone.
  • A staggering 74% of Muslim women want the marriage age to be fixed for both men and women at 21 years.

Nehru wanted India to accommodate Muslims and gave them special right, even if it means adapting to medieval laws. In subsequent cases DYNASTY modified that.  This survey on UCC is telling that these laws don't have any place in modern, educated India.

WHAT EMERGE:--

1.0  MAJORITY OF MUSLIM WOMEN, THOUGH HAD THE OPTION TO REMAIN ANONYMUS, STILL  SHARED THEIR IDENTITIES WILLINGLY, TO THE SURVEYOR.

2.0 MAJORITY,  VERY LARGE MAJORITY OF MUSLIM WOMEN ARE IN FAVOUR OF  ADOPTING  “UCC” IN INDIA.
