'Sitaram Yechury'

KNOW THY COMRADE

'Sitaram Yechury'

BORN HINDU BRAHMIN—DIED MUSLIM(?)

CPIM general secretary and staunch leftist 'Sitaram Yechury' is no more.  Sitaram Yechury may have accepted Islam on second  marriage.  Yechury was married second time  to journalist Seema Chisti, who is presently the editor of ‘The Wire.’ By birth, he was a ‘TELEGU BRAHMIN’,  born in Tamil Nadu.

Though he has not changed his name—seems to have changed his religion for second marriage. Since his dead body was getting prepared for burial in a COFFIN—this is my inference. Refer image below.

Sitaram Yechury is survived by his wife, senior journalist Seema Chishti, who is   daughter of  Anees Chishti (journalist), and Sumitra Chishti (economist).  He is also survived by daughter Akhila and son Daanish. His elder son, Ashish Yechury, passed away in 2021 at the age of 34 due to Covid.

Sitaram Yechury's first wife, Indrani Majumdar was the daughter of famous leftist activist Veena Majumdar. They had two sons.  I tried to find out present status of his first wife, —but couldn’t. Probably she may be divorced, but is alive., and living a secluded life. She was also a CPI(M) full timer, and  activist, as per past records.

His daughter Akhila Yechury is a professor of history. She has taught at the University of St. Andrews. She was also a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.

He was a great admirer of China and supported Islamist Causes.

He opposed the Ram Mandir movement all his life and finally died after seeing the construction and consecration of the grand Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ajodhya..

He used to say that all Hindu scriptures are full of violence, and  against women. He used to say that Hindus are violent by giving examples of Ramayana and Mahabharata. In 2017, during the Doklam dispute, he accused the Indian government of escalating tensions by siding with China. During Galwan too, his party had openly criticised excess by Indian Army. In 1962 war, Communist Party expressed doubt who was aggressor.

Sitaram Yechury once said that Hindu festivals promote feudal and caste based mentality.

China conducted numerous nuclear tests but he did not see any threat to world peace. But when India conducted nuclear tests, he strongly opposed it. He had a major role in crushing the demand to declare Nepal a Hindu nation again, and promoted Communism in NEPAL.

He has mobilized all leftist  support all along behind UPA government, and remain personally committed to that government.

Sitaram Yechury's Short Political Career:

Sitaram Yechury's political career began as a student leader at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) nearly 50 years ago, eventually leading him to become the General Secretary of the CPI(M) in 2015.

Yechury was elected general secretary of the SFI and later appointed its president in 1978.
In 1984, Yechury became a member of the Central Committee of the CPI-M.

Two years later, he parted ways with the SFI. At the 14th Congress of the CPI-M in 1992, Sitaram Yechury was elected to the party Politburo.
Despite the CPI(M)'s declining influence, Yechury remained a key figure within the opposition. In the 1970s, he gained recognition for preventing the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from attending a JNU event, where he publicly read out student demands for her resignation.
Yechury was a Rajya Sabha member representing West Bengal for two terms from 2005 to 2017.
Since 1992, he was a Politburo member and took on the role of General Secretary in April 2015.

He facilitated a pre-poll alliance between the CPI(M), Congress, and other opposition parties, which resulted in the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) before last Parliamentary Election.

Despite some friction within the CPI(M) and Congress, Yechury formed a strong relationship with former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Yechury is the first CPI(M) general secretary to die in the saddle in what was his third and final term. His successor would have been elected at the next party Congress in April 2025, but his abrupt departure leaves the party with the tricky task of looking for an immediate replacement.

AMEN!

NOTE:-  I attended two lectures delivered by him in JNU, and one on HINDU RELIGION, AND MARXISM, in 1984/85. I was having a schoolmate, reader in History department of JNU—and I was enrolled to do PHD then, in "Ancient Indian Vastukala". Due to Job Pressure, and family load—couldn’t pursue.
