MUSTAFA AND HIS JANNAT

MUSTAFA AND HIS JANNAT

PREVENTION IS IMPORTANT

SARASIJ MAJUMDER

A .  THE INCIDENT.

In the Mahelaj village of Gujarat’s Kheda district, a widow married a young man Mustafa Miyana.. With her she also brought her three daughters with her. They all started living with their stepfather.  One of them got married in Ahmedabad and the other two stayed with the couple.

The family was taking care of a farmhouse in Ahmedabad. Whenever nobody else was around, Mustafa began to rape his 11-year-old stepdaughter at the farmhouse. He would rape her and then threaten to kill her and her mother if she ever revealed her experience to anyone.

The rape continued for around six months without anyone noticing. And then in March 2022, the girl was found to be 3 months pregnant. Her mother had taken her to a doctor due to her poor health when the dreadful reality was exposed. She strictly questioned the girl, who eventually revealed everything.

B . THE CASE & PUNISHMENT

The mother rushed to the Matar police station and filed an FIR against Mustafa. He was booked under IPC sections and the Pocso Act.

At the court, 12 witnesses and 44 documents were presented against Mustafa. A year later, in March 2023, Mustafa Miyana was sentenced to death as per:

  • IPC section 376 (A)(B) (raping a girl under 12)
  • Pocso section 5 (J)(2) (making a child pregnant)
  • Pocso section 5 (L) (committing rape more than once)

He is also ordered to pay 2 lakh rupees compensation to the victim. While giving the death sentence, the court said that it will set an example in society.

C . PRESENT STATUS

NO INFORMATION OR STATUS OF THE CASE FOUND.

D. AWARENESS

Not adequate coverage is given to this MORBID case, either by Commercial Media ; or by Social Media. Secularists, Known Feminists, the Andolonjibi Women... all are quiet.Mr Tathagata Roy shared in the social media  about an year ago. No newspaper followed it subsequently-- to my knowledge.

E .FUTURE OPTION

Similar Incidents Happened In The Past, Many Times. Will Happen In Future Also In Many Cases, Young Step Daughter Is Sexually Exploited By Step Father, And Mother Often Is Helpless.

More Publicity & Awareness is Needed.

Prevention Of Such Incidences Is More Important. It Seems None Is Trying That.
