TODAY IS GURU
PURNIMA. It is celebrated on the full moon day or Purnima in the month of
Ashadha of the Hindu calendar. Guru Purnima celebrates the birth of Ved
Vyasa, the famous sage who is said to have edited the Vedas dividing them into
four; he also wrote the Puranas which is considered the 'fifth Veda' and the
Mahabharata. According to Jainism, Lord Mahavira became the 'Guru' to his first
disciple Gautam Swami on this day. Thus this day is celebrated to venerate
Mahavira.
Postage stamp and
coin unveiled to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad
Mookerjee: The Ministry of Culture organized an exhibition and programme

The Supreme Court
yesterday lifted a

The International
Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday issued warrants
for the arrest of the Taliban’s supreme leader and the chief justice of
Afghanistan’s Supreme Court. They are charged with persecuting women, girls,
and people who do not conform to the Taliban’s hardline gender policy since
taking power in the country in 2021. A spokesperson for the Taliban rejected the
ICC’s authority in a statement.
French President
Emmanuel Macron has emphasized strong
partnership with UK and said France and the UK should “save Europe” from
threats to democracy. In a speech to Parliament yesterday, Macron pledged to
address illegal migration with “firmness”; he is due to meet with visiting UK
Prime Minister Keir Starmer today to discuss that issue along with defence and
investment.
U.S. Secretary of
State Marco Rubio’s highly anticipated first trip to the region in his role
was cut short,
Rubio skipped planned stops in Tokyo and Seoul on his way to a regional summit
in Malaysia.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:
ISRO successfully
conducted two hot tests of the Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System
(SMPS) recently on 3 July 2025, at its Mahendragiri facility. The tests
validated propulsion system performance under simulated flight conditions,
marking a major step toward India's first human spaceflight mission.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:
An economic
offender, Monika Kapoor, who was involved in an import-export fraud and was on
the run for over 25 years, has been extradited by the Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) from the United States.
In Chhattisgarh,
twelve Maoists surrendered before the police in Dantewada district today.
District SP, Gaurav Rai said, a total reward of twenty-eight lakh rupees was
declared on nine of these Maoists.
MISHAPS: -
11 people were
killed and five others injured early Tuesday morning after the 40-year-old
Gambhira Bridge over the Mahisagar River collapsed in Vadodara district,
sending four vehicles, including two trucks and a Bolero jeep, plunging into
the river below.
Two Indian Air
Force pilots lost their lives when a twin-seater Jaguar trainer crashed near
Churu in Rajasthan on 9 July 2025. The aircraft had taken off from Suratgarh
air base for a routine mission. The IAF confirmed the tragedy on its official X
handle.
At least nine
people were killed and 19 others were missing after heavy rains on Tuesday,
flooding the Lhende river and the Bhotkosi river in Nepal’s Rasuwa district. A
flood swept away the Miterepul Bridge that links the Himalayan nation with
China.
At least 109 people
were dead and over 160 are still missing after devastating flash floods
affected Texas in the US, with rescue operations still going on along the
Guadalupe River.

India
Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for heavy rainfall
accompanied by thunderstorms over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha for
the next three days. Heavy to moderate rainfall is also expected over northern
and eastern parts of the country till 15th of this month.
