The 2025 Kanwar
Yatra begins on today @ 11 July, Friday.
The Jal Abhishekam
is done on Sawan Shivaratri. Kanwar Yatra or Kawad Yatra is an
auspicious pilgrimage observed by the devotees of Lord Shiva annually. This
yatra is also called Jal Yatra as in this practice the bearer known as
‘Kanwariyas’ or Kanvadias go the Hindu pilgrimage places like Sultanganj in
Bihar, Gangotri and Gaumukh in Uttarakhand and Haridwar to fetch water from the
Holy Ganges and then offer the ‘Ganga Jal’ to Shiva temples in their hometowns.

Vice-President
Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar yesterday said that India’s rise as a global power must

A Big Relief For
Noida And Gurugram Commuters: The long-anticipated Third Ring Road,
officially named the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), is nearing completion
and is expected to be operational by August 2025, with around 95% of the work
already done. UER-II is a 74-km-long, six-lane express corridor developed
under the Delhi Master Plan 2021. It begins at Alipur in North Delhi (NH-44)
and runs all the way to Mahipalpur, near the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48).
Trinidad and Tobago became the eighth country in the
world—and the first in the Caribbean—to offer UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
services for Indian travellers. This move will allow Indian visitors to make
payments directly in rupees using their mobile UPI apps.

A.TARIFF WAR:
a. Trump threatened Brazil with a
Tariff of 50%, linking it to the trial of Bolsonaro, who was charged
with inciting a coup to overturn his 2022 election loss.
b.
The Brazilian president responded with a strong
statement, calling Brazil a “sovereign country with independent institutions
that will not accept being lectured by anyone.”
c. Lula
vowed to take countermeasures under the country’s newly adopted economic
reciprocity law, which enables Brazil to suspend trade and investment against
countries that hurt Brazil’s interests.
d. The
United States has generally had a trade surplus with Brazil; Trump has made
false claims that there is a deficit. That surplus was $7.4 billion in 2024.
e.
The other countries informed yesterday by the
United States about new August 1 tariffs were Algeria, Brunei, Iraq, Libya,
Moldova, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Those countries are not significant
trading partners and the letters did not comment on their internal politics.
Trump also said yesterday
that a blanket 50 percent tariff on copper would take effect the same day.
B. UKRAINE DILEMA
Moscow launched large-scale drone attacks over
Ukraine for the second night in a row, seemingly signaling a change in its war
tactics. Yesterday’s attack was concentrated in Kyiv, where two people were
killed and nearly every district of the Ukrainian capital was damaged,
according to Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy. He now approached Pope to control
RUSSIA.
C. African leaders
in Washington.
Presidents from
Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal met with
Trump for a summit yesterday. The White House said the talks were focused on
“commercial opportunities” and indicated that Trump
hoped to emphasize trade over aid in relations on the continent. Several
major African economies including Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and South Africa
were not invited.
These counties are partners in the BRICS alliance, which Trump has criticized
in recent days.
D. Gaza ceasefire.
Hamas said
yesterday that it would release ten hostages as a signal of its “commitment to
the success” of peace talks. The announcement came as Trump and Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in Washington. White House envoy Steve Witkoff
reportedly said the sides had reached a breakthrough in three out of four areas
of disagreement, Axios reported. Witkoff expressed hope for a deal this week;
he is expected to travel to Qatar but delayed departure, according to the Times
of Israel.
E. Europe’s
heatwave.
Close to 2,300
people died across twelve major Western European cities during a recent
heatwave. The extreme temperatures have also caused wildfires around the
continent affecting thousands: more than 18,000 people were locked down in the
Spanish region of Catalonia earlier this week, while more than 100 were hurt in
fires in France. Greece shuttered major tourist attractions due to blazes
around Athens.

Mexico’s
firefighters in Texas. Volunteer first responders from Mexico have arrived in
the United States over recent days to aid search and rescue efforts during
devastating floods in the U.S. border state. Firefighters from the country also
went to California in January during the Los Angeles wildfires.

agreed Thursday to issue a new nationwide block against President Donald
Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship.

Indian origin
student pilot was among the two people who were killed in a tragic midair
collision involving two training aircraft in Canada on Tuesday. The dead
pilots were identified as a 21-year-old Sreehari Sukesh, a resident of
Kerala.

Delhi and the NCR
witnessed earthquake tremors on Thursday, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake hit at
around 9:04 AM yesterday, with the epicentre in Haryana's Jhajjar, the National
Center for Seismology said. It was located 10 kilometers below the Earth's
surface.
In Himachal
Pradesh, since the arrival of the southwest monsoon last month, the state has
been experiencing heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and flash floods, significantly
disrupting normal life. Intermittent moderate to heavy showers continued across
most parts of the state.
