The Election Commission announces second phase of Special
Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in 12 states and Union Territories;
Process to start from tomorrow and conclude on 7th February, next year.
In the Indian electoral system, SIR stands for Special
Intensive Revision. It is a special drive launched by the Election Commission
of India (ECI) to ensure that the electoral rolls (voter lists) are accurate,
complete, and up to date. The purpose of this process is to include eligible
voters who may have been left out and to remove names of those who are no
longer eligible, such as deceased or shifted persons. Special Intensive
Revision (SIR) is a comprehensive, door-to-door verification process of electoral
rolls.
Aurangabad Railway Station Renamed as Chhatrapati
Sambhajinagar Station: Nearly three years after Aurangabad city in Maharashtra
was renamed, the Central Railway officially changed Aurangabad railway station
to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station with the new station code CPSN.
Uttarakhand will implement a green tax on all vehicles from
outside the state to protect the Himalayan ecosystem and reduce pollution in
destinations like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainital, and Rishikesh. The tax,
ranging from ₹80 to ₹700 depending on vehicle type, will be collected through
ANPR cameras and automatic digital deduction.

Senior U.S. and Chinese officials reached a framework
yesterday for a potential trade deal on tariffs and other issues ahead of a
meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping this week.
President Javier Milei’s ruling party will expand its
presence in Argentina’s legislature after outpacing the main opposition
alliance by a wide margin in yesterday’s midterms. The election was seen as a
referendum on Milei’s pro-market economic overhaul.
Trump announced a 10 percent tariff increase on Canadian
goods Saturday.
Trump presided yesterday over the signing of a deal
formalizing a July ceasefire agreement between the two countries. The deal
commits both sides to withdrawing heavy weapons from their shared border and
establishing a monitoring mechanism.
Timor-Leste, Asia’s youngest country, became the eleventh
member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) yesterday. It is
the bloc’s first expansion since the 1990s.
U.S.-Brazil talks. The two countries committed to launch
trade negotiations at a meeting yesterday between Trump and Brazilian President
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Malaysia. Trump said the leaders “get along very
well” and he believed the two countries could reach a deal quickly. It marked a
shift in tone from Trump’s earlier criticism of Brazil and imposition of 50
percent tariffs on the country.
International allies may be reluctant to support Venezuela’s
Nicolás Maduro in the face of U.S. pressure, but his grip over the country

China’s CR450 has become the world’s fastest high-speed
train, reaching 453 km/h during pre-service testing on the Shanghai–Chengdu
