Assassination or
Accident? The Controversial $4 Billion Arms Deal. Pakistan has
entered into a massive agreement to export weapons to Libya. The primary item
in this deal is the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, essentially Chinese technology
that Pakistan "rebrands" to export. Libya is currently
split between two rival governments. Pakistan reportedly
signed this deal with the rebel faction led by Khalifa Haftar, which controls
the oil-rich eastern regions. The Death of Mohammed Al-Haddad: There are growing
claims that the plane crash was not an accident but a targeted assassination. Al-Haddad was a
vocal opponent of the "substandard" Pakistani weapons deal being
made with the rival rebel group. Some theories point
toward the Pakistani military leadership, specifically Asim Munir, suggesting
a plot to remove an obstacle to their $4 billion deal. Turkey has
officially stated they do not believe the crash was caused by weather or
technical failure, but by a "killing". |
