MISHAPS: -

Trains crash while carrying tourists to Peru’s Machu Picchu, killing 1 person and injuring dozens.

Six people lost their lives in a bus accident at Vinayak area of Almorah district in Uttarakhand yesterday. According to the State Disaster Response Force, the bus was traveling from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar and had around 17 to 18 people on board. The injured are receiving treatment at the government hospital in Bhikiyasain.

IMD:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad. The weather agency has issued orange alert for very dense fog over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Chandigarh today.

Snow-capped Mount Etna erupts as skiers glide down slopes.

Huge plumes of ash and smoke were filmed erupting from Mount Etna, Sicily on 27 December as skiers used the slopes below.

Scientists at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia said volcanic activity at the site, which frequently erupts, had intensified, with craters continuously emitting ash.

In response, scientists issued a red Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation, its highest level, though authorities said flights would continue to operate normally at a nearby airport unless ashfall increased.
