Beating Retreat ceremony, marking culmination of

Rubio laid out U.S. plans to closely supervise

Two federal immigration agents involved in the

Switzerland announced plans yesterday to
increase defense spending by roughly $40 billion beginning in 2028, citing a
“more volatile and insecure” world. Authorities said they would fund the
increase through a sales tax hike. The plan is projected to raise Switzerland’s
defense spending to up to 1.5 percent of GDP.
Brussels and Hanoi upgraded their relationship
to a comprehensive strategic partnership during a visit to Vietnam today by
European Council President António Costa. The label is Vietnam’s highest
diplomatic ranking and until now had been reserved for partners like China,
Russia, and the United States. The EU has had a trade deal with Vietnam, its
largest trade partner in Southeast Asia, since 2020.

sanctions on Guinea imposed after a 2021 coup. It cited the conclusion of

yesterday convicted a former first lady of corruption. Kim Keon Hee, wife of
ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol, was found guilty of accepting luxury goods in
exchange for government favors.
TURKEY’S
ANTI-ESPIONAGE STING: Government security forces detained six people accused of
spying for Iran after raids in multiple parts of the country yesterday, state
broadcaster TRT reported. The crackdown comes as Turkey tries to position
itself as a mediator between Washington and Tehran in a bid to avoid U.S.
military action against Iran. Iran’s foreign minister is due to visit Turkey
tomorrow.

Karnataka
has emerged as the undisputed hub of India’s generative Artificial Intelligence Revolution, hosting 39 per cent of the country’s
GenAI startups, according to the Economic Survey 2025–26. The milestone

startup ecosystem, now ranked the third-largest globally.
The
US State Department has urged American citizens planning to travel to Pakistan
to reconsider their plans, citing security concerns. In its latest advisory,
the department advised travellers to think twice before visiting Pakistan due
to crime, civil unrest, terrorism, and the risk of kidnapping.
The Delhi High Court has clarified that
freedom of speech, though a fundamental right, is limited and cannot be used to
justify defamatory or abusive campaigns against individuals or organisations.
The Court said that the Constitution itself places reasonable restrictions
under Article 19(2), and the right to free expression does not cover speech that
is defamatory, malicious or intended to harm the reputation and dignity of
others.

Amid
growing controversy over a proposal to reduce the notified boundary of
Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary in Shivamogga district, Karnataka Forest
Minister Shri Eshwar Khandre visited the sanctuary to assess the situation on
the ground. The visit comes as debates intensify between the state government
and conservationists over legal, ecological and livelihood concerns linked to
the sanctuary’s extent.
