LEBANON:A ceasefire in Lebanon will go on for three more weeks, U.S. President Donald Trump announced following talks yesterday with Israeli and Lebanese envoys.

Trump said he directly mediated between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, and pledged that Washington would help Beirut “protect itself” from Hezbollah. A senior official from Hezbollah group has said that it will not respect what Israel and Lebanon decide in their latest talks. But Hezbollah reduced their attacks against ISRAEL during the ceasefire.

IRAN: Trump declined to give a timeline to reporters yesterday on an end to the U.S.-Iran conflict. He reiterated a threat of using additional military force if Washington was unsatisfied with diplomacy. Trump also ruled out the possibility of using nuclear weapons. Tehran has called on Washington to stop its blockade on Iran’s coastline for peace talks to proceed, while U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this morning that the United States is continuing the blockade “without hesitation or apology.”

THE ENERGY STRAIN: As U.S. and Iranian restrictions on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz—a chokepoint for the world’s energy supply—continue, the director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol warned yesterday that the world is “facing the biggest energy security threat in history.” He added that the prolongation of the “double blockade” on the Strait of Hormuz might soon cause a jet fuel shortage in Europe. He urged countries to increase their use of renewable energy, but also acknowledged that coal use could increase, particularly in large countries in Asia.

Pentagon suggests Spain’s NATO suspension. Senior Pentagon officials are considering responses to NATO countries’ reluctance to participate in the Iran war that include suspending Spain from the alliance, according to an internal Pentagon email seen by Reuters. An unnamed NATO official told the BBC there was no provision for suspending alliance members. The email does not propose withdrawing the United States from NATO or shutting down bases in Europe.

East African Refinery: The richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, pledged yesterday to help East African nations build a new oil refinery in Tanzania to increase the continent’s self-sufficiency amid the current global energy shock. He has already backed a major refinery in Nigeria. The new facility would include a Kenyan pipeline and would process crude oil from countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, Dangote said.

The United States plans to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Group of Twenty (G20) conference that will be hosted this December at Trump’s golf course in Florida, unnamed officials told the Washington Post. The State Department said that Russia is welcome at G20 meetings.

Turkish legislators passed a law blocking people under the age of fifteen from creating social media accounts and introducing parental controls, according to state media.

The United Arab Emirates plans to shift 50 percent of government services onto artificial intelligence within two years as part of a sweeping overhaul of its public‑sector machinery.

 MISHAPS:

In Manipur, the Ukhrul district has witnessed a fresh clash between communities, as three people died in a gunfight yesterday. According to the police report, the incident took place between Sinakeithel and Mullom villages in the Ukhrul district.

In Nepal, two people have died, and 29 have been injured in a bus accident this afternoon at Shera in Shuklagandaki Municipality-7 of Tanahu district. Thirty-one passengers were travelling on the bus.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:

 The Maharashtra has approved the State Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy 2026 to strengthen clean energy production and scientific waste management. The decision was taken by the State Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnabis.

 A special milk freight train carrying Amul products has reached Jammu and Kashmir from Gujarat, marking a historic first in ensuring bulk dairy transportation to the Union Territory via rail. The train, equipped with specialised refrigerated containers, transported large quantities of milk and dairy products, ensuring quality and freshness upon arrival.

In Punjab, the Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases starting from April 30th.

CLIMATE:

Odisha is reeling under a severe heatwave, with temperatures crossing 40°C in several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings in many districts.   IMD also issues heatwave alert in Keralam amid rising heat and humidity.

CRIME & JUDICIARY:

Supreme Court rules, no court can compel a woman, especially a minor, to carry a pregnancy against her will.

 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting a search operation in the Andhra Pradesh Liquor Scam case. In a statement, the ED said that searches were carried out at 12 premises, including 11 at Hyderabad and 1 at Tirupati.

The Indian Army has formally initiated termination proceedings against Major Sharyf Bhonsle, a commissioned officer of the elite 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), who has remained absent without leave since August 2014. 

At the time of his unauthorised absence, he was serving in a sensitive and prestigious appointment as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the banking licence of the Paytm Payments Bank Limited and effectively ended the its ability to operate as a bank. This decision comes after the years of regulatory concerns and the repeated non-compliance. The central bank has also announced that it will approach the High Court to wind-up the proceedings.
