BENGAL FILES:
Demanding safety after counting of votes, hundreds of
villagers staged a protest in Falta in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district
on Saturday (May 2, 2026), alleging they were receiving life threats from TMC
workers in the area.
The protesters, many of them women and holding BJP flags,
blocked the road in Hasimnagar village, alleging that local Panchayat Pradhan Israfil,
a close associate of TMC candidate, and a known GOON Jehangir Khan, issued them
threats of attacks after poll results are announced.
A Special Bench on SUNDAY in Supreme Court of India ruled
that no
further order was required on the
plea filed by the All India Trinamool Congress challenging the dismissal of its
petition by the Calcutta High Court. The petition was against a circular issued
by the Election Commission of India on deployment of central government
personnel for vote counting in West Bengal.
REST OF INDIA:
A Marshall Islands-flagged LPG carrier, MT Sarv Shakti,
carrying 46 thousand 313 Metric Tonnes of LPG (Indian cargo) with 20 crew
members onboard, including 18 Indians, safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz
today. Official sources said, it is expected to arrive at Visakhapatnam on 13th
of this month.
The Railways has extended the routes of local trains
operating from Palwal station. Train Numbers 64016 and 64019 have been extended
up to Mathura, while Train Numbers 64082 and 64051 will now run up to Kosi
Kalan.
In Haryana, senior administrators, urban planners, and
representatives of the real estate sector have reached a consensus on the need
to modernise and strengthen the Haryana Development and Urban Areas
(Regulation) Act, 1975.
Haryana State Election Commission has taken strict
cognisance of the illegal display of posters, banners, flex boards and
hoardings at various locations during the general and bye-elections to
municipal bodies.
The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Summit concluded at Surat in
Gujarat yesterday, with the signing of a record 2,792 Memorandums of
Understanding worth over three lakh 53 thousand crore rupees. the agreements

The Vande Bharat Express has officially commenced its
regular service between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley yesterday. The train
departed at 6:20 AM from Jammu, marking a significant step in enhancing rail
connectivity in the region. The service was inaugurated on Thursday, by Railway
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Reports indicate that China has launched a disinformation
campaign targeting India’s Great Nicobar Port project, portraying it as
environmentally destructive and politically controversial. Analysts suggest
this is part of Beijing’s broader strategy to undermine India’s strategic
foothold near the Strait of Malacca, a critical chokepoint for Chinese trade
and energy supplies.
IRAN
WAR:
Iran has reportedly presented a 14-point plan to the US
focused on “ending the war”, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim agency.
This comes after the US reportedly sent Iran a nine-point proposal.
US President says he is preparing to review the newly
submitted peace proposal from Iran, though he expresses significant doubt
regarding its acceptability.
The Iranian military has indicated that a resumption of the
“US-Israel war” against the nation is “likely,” asserting that its forces
remain “fully prepared” to counter any “adventures or foolishness” from
Washington.
US President Donald Trump has voiced his disapproval of
Iran’s recent peace initiative, noting that the proposal includes demands he
“can’t agree to.”
Iran asserts that the US president has openly described the
unlawful capture of Iranian vessels as “piracy” and has brazenly boasted that
“we act like pirates.”
Iran has reportedly proposed a 14-point “war-ending” plan to
the US, a move seen as a counter-response to an earlier nine-point proposal
sent by Washington.
Hezbollah has intensified its operations against Israeli
units within Lebanese territory Saturday amid a series of targeted strikes
across the south.
The Israeli military admitted to striking a southern
Lebanese “religious building” on Saturday. A Catholic charity later identified
the structure as a convent, denouncing the strike as a “deliberate” attack on a
sacred site.
Israeli forces have continued to bombard Lebanon with
frequent air strikes and artillery fire.
The Lebanese Army reported a meeting between US General
Joseph Clearfield, the new chief of the US-led ceasefire monitoring committee
and the Lebanese army commander, General Rodolphe Haykal.
Syria’s southern regions, including Quneitra, have long
witnessed Israeli settlement.
Recently, dozens of Israeli settlers crossed into Syrian
territory in the Golan Heights, demanding approval to build a new settlement.
Hezbollah says its fighters are launching a series of
targeted strikes against Israeli forces.

and customer service is no longer available. Spirit Airlines announced it would
issue refunds to all customers with existing tickets, advising them to rebook

MISHAPS:
At least six dead in heavy rains in northeast Brazil,
thousands displaced.
In Kenya, ten people have been killed after heavy rains
triggered flooding and landslides across multiple regions. Landslides hit parts
of Elgeyo Marakwet County. Authorities said two bridges were damaged in Kwale
County and Kitui County.
In Maharashtra, a fire broke out yesterday in construction
material stored near the premises of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
(CSMT) in Mumbai.
Two labourers were killed after a crane collapsed at the
under-construction Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road project site in Maharashtra’s
Thane district yesterday. The incident took place when a gantry crane platform
suddenly collapsed while workers were on it.
In Chhattisgarh, four security personnel lost their lives in
an IED blast near the Kanker-Narayanpur district border. The incident occurred
while personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were on an operation to
defuse an improvised explosive device (IED).
SCIENCE
& TECHNOLOGY:
Eight of the USA’s major artificial intelligence firms have
agreed in deploying their AI systems in the Department of Défense’s (DOD)
classified networks, as the agency seeks to bolster the technology into Military
Operations.
OpenAI, Google, Nvidia, Reflection AI, Microsoft, Amazon Web
Services and SpaceX signed deals with the Pentagon to deploy their AI
technology for “lawful operational use,” the Pentagon announced Friday.
Anthropic, which the Pentagon designated as a supply chain risk earlier this
year, was notably not included. It later said Oracle is also part of the deal.
India has achieved a
major milestone in its maritime defence capabilities with the successful test
of a long-range hypersonic anti-ship missile off the coast of Odisha. Defence
sources confirmed that the missile struck its designated target at a range of
1,500 kilometres, achieving a ‘perfect score’ by meeting all mission
objectives.

Dragonflies are in
distress: Scientists sound alarm in India's ecological hotspot ‘WESTERN GHATS’.
The study, funded by the Indian government's Department of
Science and Technology and conducted over two years (2021-2023) and five Indian
states, found that 143 different species of dragonflies and damselflies inhabit
the Western Ghats, with at least 40 of them being ENDEMIC
to the region.
But the researchers also discovered something troubling - at
least 79 additional species that were previously reported in the region were
not found, an almost 35% decline in the number of dragonfly and damselfly
species in the Western Ghats.
CLIMATE:
IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall across Keralam and
issued a yellow alert for seven districts.
IMD also issued yellow warning for rainfall, lightning and
strong winds over the National Capital for the next two days.
ENTERTAINMENTS:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences yesterday
released new rules for the 2027 Academy Awards, requiring humans to be at the
center of creative processes. Only performances by humans will be considered
for acting awards, and only human-authored scripts can receive screenplay
awards. Separately, the rules expand eligibility for international films as
membership has become more diverse.
