BENGAL FILES:

Late Mr. Chandranath Rath, the close aide of BJP leader Mr. Shuvendu Adhikari was shot dead in a professional ambush  in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on 6th night while returning home. He served in the Indian Air Force before  becoming one of the opposition leader's most trusted political associates.

Mr. Adhikary made him in-charge of Bhawanipore constituency to look after his campaign, from where outgoing CM Ms. Mamata Banerjee lost the election to Mr. Shuvendu Adhikary.

It is being considered that it was a political murder, executed by Supari Killers coming from other province(s), and the assailants escaped by AIR. Local supports are arrested. CCTV footage available throws some information. SIT formed.

Police took into custody and investigated William Joseph, a resident of Shiv Mandir, Siliguri, in connection with the murder case.  His car’s number plate was allegedly used by the assailants.

Further investigation is in progress.

This is not post-poll violence—but a cold blooded, and an well planned revenge MURDER!! The mastermind (s) along with the executor(s) must be punished in an exemplary manner.

In West Bengal, the state Legislative Assembly has been formally dissolved.  Governor R. N. Ravi issued the order to dissolve the existing Assembly yesterday, exercising powers under Article 174 of the Constitution.

 Drama on Resignation  of PROTEM CM ended.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata today. He is scheduled to attend a meeting with the newly elected BJP MLAs, during which the party’s legislative leader will be selected.

The swearing-in of newly elected BJP government in West Bengal will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday, on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti.

REST OF INDIA:

In Assam, the BJP-led NDA government will take an oath for a third consecutive term on the 12th of May.

Tamil Nadu’s TVK party struggles to prove majority claim:  In the assembly poll results, Actor-turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) swept 108 of the state’s 234 seats. TVK needs 10 more seats to hit that 118-seat mark. DMK has secured 59, and AIADMK has won 47 seats, while Congress has won five seats.

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy submits resignation to Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan. The National Democratic Alliance government led by Rangasamy is set to return to power after securing a comfortable majority in the elections.

In Jammu and Kashmir, special prayers were held at Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha in Poonch district yesterday to pay homage to those killed in Pakistani shelling following Operation Sindoor.

The two-day 5th BRICS Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) Leaders’ Summit began in Bengaluru yesterday under the theme “Ease of Living with a Focus on Urban Mobility”. Organised by the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India as part of India’s BRICS Chairmanship 2026, the summit has brought together 42 delegates, including Heads of SAIs from BRICS countries.

India & Vietnam upgraded their bilateral relations to an “enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership” during Vietnamese President To Lam’s visit to New Delhi yesterday. They set a goal of increasing bilateral trade from around $16 billion currently to $25 billion by 2030, agreed to open their markets to certain agricultural goods, and pledged to deepen rare earth cooperation.

The President of Vietnam visited the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai during his day-long visit to the city. He participated in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony at the NSE and was welcomed by Managing Director and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan.

IRAN WAR:

Interceptions by Iran’s air defences lit up the night sky over western Tehran on Thursday night amid reports of clashes between Iranian and US forces in the Strait of Hormuz and strikes on Iran’s coastal areas.

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said its naval forces came under Iranian missile, drone and fast boat attack in the Strait of Hormuz and responded by eliminating “inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking US forces”.

 U.S. President Donald Trump said yesterday that the two countries had carried out “very good talks” and that Iran had agreed not to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Israel’s military said today that yesterday’s attack killed a Hezbollah commander in Beirut’s suburbs. Hezbollah did not immediately comment.

The Trump administration released a counterterrorism strategy yesterday focused on countering narcoterrorism, Islamist terrorism, and violent left-wing extremism. It lists drug groups in the Western hemisphere as its first priority. It also pledges to neutralize violent political groups with “anti-American, radically pro-transgender, and anarchist” ideology but says the administration will not use counterterrorism powers to target people “who simply disagree with us.”

The United States exported an all-time high of 8.2 million barrels per day of refined fuel last week, government data showed yesterday.

The World Health Organization (WHO)  confirmed five Hantavirus cases linked to a cruise ship outbreak, while three additional cases remain suspected.

The cruise ship on which three passengers have died from the rodent-borne Hantavirus will dock in Spain’s Canary Islands to repatriate its remaining passengers, Spain’s government announced yesterday after reaching a deal with the World Health Organization. Eight cases of the virus have been confirmed on the ship, but World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said yesterday that “for now, the risk to the rest of the world is low.”

Critical minerals coordination will be a focus of the Group of Seven (G7) summit next month, France, the bloc’s rotating president, said at a G7 trade ministers’ meeting yesterday.  European countries are reportedly wary of Washington leading the project due to concerns it could restrict mineral access in crisis situations.

Ivory Coast scraps election authority. The government announced yesterday it had disbanded the country’s election commission in a bid to restore public trust in elections and will replace it with a new body.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:

SSS Defence has successfully delivered the first batch of its indigenously designed T-12 Semi-Auto Shotguns to the Indian Army, marking a significant milestone in India’s drive towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The weapon is now being inducted into operational units, particularly under the Northern Command.

India has deployed its first indigenous Maritime Spotter Drone from INS Vikrant, developed by Mumbai-based Sagar Defence Engineering. This marks a major leap in naval aviation technology, enabling real-time surveillance, piracy interception, and autonomous operations from moving warships.

CLIMATE:

A sudden dust storm swept through the Mumbai  Region yesterday evening, engulfing some parts of Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and Murbad. The sudden cloud of dust, accompanied by strong winds, hit the region around 4.30 pm, sharply lowering visibility.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

In Jammu and Kashmir, the anti-drug campaign has intensified, with 481 FIRs registered and 518 people arrested in the last 22 days. Authorities have also attached or demolished 24 properties linked to the narcotics trade under the NDPS Act.

Boko Haram militants killed 23 security personnel in an attack on a military base in Central African country of Chad. Many other Chadian soldiers were injured in the attack, which was eventually repelled.

HAL has yet to deliver a single TEJAS MK-1A to the Indian Air Force as of 7 May 2026, despite having six GE F404 engines and more than twenty airframes in inventory.
