Around 11.30 am, 9th May, 2026, Shuvendu Adhikari took the oath as 9 th CM
of West Bengal in the presence of Prime Minister of India, Union ministers Amit
Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. All BJP chief
ministers, including Devendra Fadnavis, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Yogi
Adityanath, were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Apart from Adhikari, five ministers – Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra
Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Kshudiram Tudu – also took oath. Pramanik belongs to the Rajbanshi community,
Kirtania is a Matua, and Tudu is from the Adivasi community.

India has introduced QR-code-enabled identity cards for Census enumerators
as part of the upcoming Census 2027 exercise. The new system allows residents
to verify the authenticity of Census staff by scanning the QR code using a
mobile device.

India and the European Union have launched the ₹169 crore joint initiative

GULF
WAR:
Washington is awaiting Iran’s response to a U.S. proposal
that would formally end the war before they start talking about Iran’s nuclear
program. The two sides traded fire in the Gulf on Friday.
Israeli attacks on Lebanon have continued.
Hezbollah said it carried out three separate attacks on
Israeli forces in southern Lebanon as a response to continued Israeli strikes.
Britain is sending the Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Dragon, to
the Middle East, ready to join an international mission to unblock the Strait
of Hormuz, the defence ministry said.
Israeli forces attacked multiple locations in the occupied
West Bank, including the town of Deir Jarir and the Jalazone refugee camp north
of Ramallah, while settlers stormed the village of Khirbet Samra in the Jordan
Valley.
Israel and Lebanon will resume negotiations with two days of

conducted the successful flight-trial of an advanced Agni missile with multiple
independently targeted re-entry vehicle (MIRV) system on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at 17 locations in Mumbai
with three cases registered against Reliance ADA Group companies in connection
with alleged frauds involving thousands of crores of rupees.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) issued a show-cause
notice to grappler Vinesh Phogat, accusing her of indiscipline and anti-doping
