The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal aide to West Bengal Chief Minister.

Sujit Bose: Arrested on May 11, 2026, following 10 hours of interrogation by the ED regarding allegations of accepting bribes for jobs and acquiring property through illicit means.

Garga Chatterjee: Arrested by the Cyber Crime division for making provocative statements and spreading rumours about election machinery. Several round of ammunitions recovered from his house.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas notified royalty rates for crude oil and natural gas production on 8 May 2026. The revised structure applies to onshore, offshore, Deepwater, and ultra-Deepwater fields in India.  The royalty on onshore crude oil production has been reduced to 10% from 16.66%. The royalty on offshore crude oil production has been reduced to 8% from 9.09%. The royalty rate for natural gas has been reduced to 8% from 10%.

IRAN WAR:

MISHAPS:

In Maharashtra, six devotees were killed and around 15  injured after a wall collapsed during a religious gathering in Jat tehsil of district this afternoon. More than 300 devotees had gathered at the site when strong winds accompanied by heavy rain lashed the area.

Bangladesh is witnessing a worsening measles outbreak, with nine more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions at isolated places over Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh today.

An orange alert for rain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand for the next 36 hours, while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

 UKRANE’s national anti-corruption agency announced yesterday it had charged former presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak with involvement in a more than $10 million money laundering scheme. Yermak resigned from his position in November after anti-corruption officials searched his home. He told journalists in Kyiv yesterday he would comment when the investigation is complete.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, May 12, took into its custody a 30-year-old student from Nashik in Maharashtra in connection with the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak.

A crime branch unit 2 of the Nashik Police detained Shubham Khairnar, a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Nandgaon. He allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh for the leaked paper and then sold it online for Rs 15 lakh to another buyer from Haryana.
