“यतो धर्मस्ततो
जयः"
The Sanskrit
phrase "यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः" (Yato Dharmastato Jayaḥ) from the
Mahabharata translates to "Where there is Dharma (righteousness/justice),
there is Victory". It is a well-known verse with 13 occurrences in the
epic, associated with the principle that moral conduct triumphs.

President Smt. Droupadi Murmu yesterday conferred Padma
Awards to 66 eminent personalities for the year 2026 at the first Civil
Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Of them two were conferred
with Padma Vibhushan, six with Padma Bhushan and 58 personalities were conferred
with Padma Shri.
Veteran actor Hema Malini
received late husband Dharmendra's posthumous Padma Vibhushan award at
the ceremony held in Delhi.
Sansad Ratna Awards 2026 winners have been announced,
honouring top-performing MPs and parliamentary committees. BJP leaders Medha
Kulkarni and Smita Uday Wagh are among the awardees in the prestigious
parliamentary recognition programme.
The Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting will be held in New
Delhi from today. Foreign Minister of
Australia Penny Wong, Foreign Minister of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi and Secretary
of State of the United States Marco Rubio will participate in the meeting. External Affairs Minister S
Jaishankar will preside over the meeting.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to
all the States and Union Territories
calling for safe, secure and successful conduct of the NEET (UG) 2026
re-examination scheduled for 21st of next month.

arrears for state government employees.

Resignations: Reports indicate massive internal friction within the Trinamool Congress,
with a series of municipal councillors in Diamond Harbour resigning from their
posts. TMC District President Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from her
organizational post. Many from TMC will merge in
INC.
ED Raids in Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED)
launched synchronized search operations at three separate locations across
Kolkata, including Chakraberia, Royd Street, and Kasba, in connection with an
ongoing gold smuggling and financial irregularities investigation.
Beleghata Protests: Local residents staged demonstrations
outside the office of TMC leader and promoter Raju Naskar in Beleghata
following allegations of illegal construction. Kunal Ghosh was also not spared.
Asansol Evictions: Local administrative authorities backed
by heavy police deployments continued an eviction drive targeting alleged
illegal structures built on land belonging to SAIL in Burnpur.
Chingrighata Metro Project: The second phase of critical
Metro construction work at the busy Chingrighata intersection was successfully

WAR:
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been re-elected for the seventh
consecutive year, Iran’s Fars News Agency reports. Ghalibaf has also been among
the leading negotiators in talks to end the war.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says some
progress has been made in talks with the United States with Pakistan’s
mediation on “a large portion of the discussion topics”, but it does not mean
that “the signing of an agreement is imminent”.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says a “pretty solid”
proposal is on the table amid continuing efforts to reach an agreement with
Iran, while insisting that President Donald Trump is “not going to make a bad
deal”.
Trump has said he instructed his team not to rush into any
agreement with IRAN.
Iran’s top negotiators have arrived in Doha for high-stakes
talks with the United States, amid cautious optimism over a possible agreement.
Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas
Araghchi reached the Qatari capital for
discussions focused on key issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s highly enriched uranium
stockpile.
Iranian media reports that the situation was under control
after reports of explosions in the southern city of Bandar Abbas.
United States media later reported that the US military had
conducted strikes on southern Iran that it claimed were for the “self-defence”

TATA Electronics is set to begin semiconductor chip
packaging at its ₹27,120‑crore OSAT facility in Jagiroad, Assam, with phased
qualification already underway.
CLIMATE:
The India Meteorological Department said there will be a
gradual fall in maximum temperature across West Bengal from May 28 by two to
three notches.

& PUNISHMENT:
A Delhi court convicted Congress leader Alka Lamba in a case
related to an assault on police personnel during a protest at the Jantar Mantar
in 2024. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar convicted Lamba
and fixed 5th June to hear the arguments on Lamba’s sentencing.
The National Investigation Agency yesterday conducted
searches at three locations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar and Shopian
districts. Officials said raids were carried out at Darul Uloom Sirajul Uloom in Shopian’s Imam Sahib area.

Wrestling Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, Indian wrestlers put up a dominant

In the 57 kg freestyle category, Akshay Tanaji Dhere
defeated Yelaman Amangeldiyev 4-2 to claim the top podium spot. In the 97 kg freestyle category, Vicky also
struck gold after a closely fought 7-5 victory over Sherzod Poyonov.

India’s new framework for exchanging foreign tax information
comes into effect from 1 July 2026. The rules apply to requests received by the
Income Tax Department from foreign tax jurisdictions and to India’s outbound
requests for tax information sent to other jurisdictions.
Indian stock markets ended sharply higher with Sensex
surging over 1,000 points and Nifty closing above 24,000. Falling crude oil
prices, easing West Asia tensions, and strong buying in banking and auto stocks
lifted market sentiment.
GLOBAL:
Oil prices have fallen by more than $5 to two-week lows,
with Brent crude futures trading $5.09 lower at $98.45 a barrel at 07:05 GMT on
Monday, touching the lowest level since May 7 earlier in the session.
Asian emerging markets’ MSCI index rose 0.3 percent, while
its global emerging market equities index was up 0.6 percent in Asian trading.
Across Asia, regional currencies appreciated to levels last
seen in mid-May. The Indian rupee, Thai baht, Malaysian ringgit, Philippine
peso and the Singapore dollar gained ground.
Gold prices rose by more than 1 percent, with the US dollar
weakening and oil prices easing. Spot gold was trading at $4,557.46 per ounce,
as of 05:42 GMT.
Japan’s Nikkei share average surged past the 65,000 level
for the first time. Its 8.95 percent advance over the past three sessions was
the steepest three-day gain in more than six years.
