The Sanskrit phrase "यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः" (Yato Dharmastato Jayaḥ) from the Mahabharata translates to "Where there is Dharma (righteousness/justice), there is Victory". It is a well-known verse with 13 occurrences in the epic, associated with the principle that moral conduct triumphs.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 Globemaster III aircraft has delivered 43 tonnes of medical supplies to Uganda to support Central Africa’s fight against an Ebola outbreak.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri has inaugurated the first E85 fuel dispensing station in Delhi. E85 has been priced at Rs 82.12 per litre in Delhi, which is exactly Rs 20 lesser than regular E20 petrol. E85 dispensers will carry their own branding to mark it out from regular E20 petrol. The fuel is available for purchase for applicable vehicles with immediate effect.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the India’s first ever shipment of botanical-infused ready to cook millet functional foods from the Karnataka to New Zealand. This landmark export not only showcase the increasing global popularity of millet-based products but also demonstrates the country’s growing capabilities in producing the value added agricultural goods.

Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Khanal, is on an official visit to India from 5 June to 7 June 2026. The visit takes place at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and formal talks are scheduled in New Delhi.

Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is considering a visit to India in early July 2026 for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India and the United Kingdom launched the Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO) on 5 June 2026 in New Delhi. The observatory is a joint initiative of TEXMiN at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad, and the University of Cambridge.

Kolkata Mayor Resigns: Senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim resigned as the Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Following suit, Bidhannagar Corporation Mayor Krishna Chakraborty also exited.

Failed Emergency Meeting: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called an urgent high-level huddle at her residence to contain the damage. However, the meeting saw exceptionally low turnout, with reports indicating only 8 MLAs and 6 MPs physically attended, signalling a deep loss of control over the legislative wing.

It is reported that Kakali Ghosh Dastidar will lead a ‘REBEL’ MP team of TMC and meat BJP at Delhi. The number varies from 18 to 22.

NIA Raids in Bhangar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive raids at the residence and party office of former TMC MLA Shaukat Molla in connection with the Bhangar Bomb Blast Case. He has earlier officially been declared absconding, with alerts shared with the Border Security Force (BSF), but pulled out of ‘RAT HOLE’ and arrested later from ‘CHINGRI HATA’.

Arrests & Legal Inquiries: Local TMC leader Jay Prakash Majumdar was arrested in Salt Lake over the illegal occupation of a woman's property. Separately, Swarup Biswas—brother of former minister Aroop Biswas—was apprehended in Tollygunge following extortion and sexual exploitation allegations within the local film industry.

High Court Intervention: The Calcutta High Court demanded a report from the state government regarding Public Interest Litigations (PILs) protesting the practice of tying ropes around the waists of arrested individuals and parading them in public. IRAN WAR:

Senior IPS officer Sunil Achayya's wife Sandhya Achayya was killed in a wild elephant attack while inspecting work at a coffee plantation near Titimati in Kodagu district  Karnataka on Friday.

Space Station Leak Alert: NASA temporarily forced astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) to retreat into emergency shelter capsules during a high-stakes, failed Russian attempt to patch an air leak in a tunnel section. The evacuation order has since been deactivated.

CLIMATE:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a week of consistent rain and thunderstorms across Kolkata and south Bengal, even as hot north-westerly winds delay the full onset of the monsoon.

Delhi may get monsoon between June 25-30. Same timeline projected for Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad; northern states like Punjab, Haryana fall in bracket too.

Despite the delayed start, weather officials expect the monsoon to advance across most parts of the country by the third week of June.

WILD LIFE:

India achieved the significant milestone in the environmental conservation as the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary which is popularly known as the Surha Tal in the state of Uttar Pradesh has become the 100th Ramsar Sites of the India. This was announced on the World Environment Day 2026.

OBITUARY:

Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal was an Indian shot putter and Arjuna Award recipient who died in Chandigarh on 1 June 2026 at the age of 67. He won a bronze medal at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi and multiple medals at the Asian Athletics Championships.

Jagannath Prasad Das, known as J. P. Das, was an Odia poet, playwright, art historian and former Indian Administrative Service officer. He died recently on 3 June 2026 at his residence in Bhubaneswar at the age of 90. He was born on 26 April 1936 in Puri district.

Historic Chess Title: Indian chess prodigy G.M. R Praggnanandhaa scripted history by clinching the prestigious Norway Chess 2026 title after a stunning victory in the final round.

The Indian U18 Men’s Hockey Team showed incredible character to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan 5-3 in a high-voltage semi-final match of the U18 Men’s Asia Cup 2026 on Friday. RBI Policy Stance: The Reserve Bank of India kept the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25%. However, it dampened rate cut hopes by lowering the FY27 GDP growth forecast to 6.6% and raising the inflation projection to 5.1%.

Geopolitical Stress: Lingering risks surrounding the US-Iran geopolitical conflict kept global markets highly volatile.

Rupee Rebound: The Indian Rupee surged closing at a two-month high of 94.93 against the US dollar. The rally followed newly announced central bank measures designed to boost foreign capital inflows.

Institutional Outflows: Persistent selling pressure from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued to place a heavy lid on domestic equity benchmarks.

The Indian share market closed marginally lower on Friday, June 5, 2026, as the BSE Sensex fell 116.67 points (0.16%) to finish at 74,243.34, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 49.85 points (0.21%) to close at 23,366.70.
