Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of
NAMO Airport in Daman as part of a ₹2,970 crore development package. The modern
airport facility is set to improve regional connectivity, boost tourism,
attract investment, and support economic growth in the Union Territory.
The Andhra Pradesh government
launched Yogandhra 2026, a statewide campaign aimed at promoting yoga

Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti
Vardhan Singh launched a mobile

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Western Region,
has directed all food business operators to immediately discontinue the use of
newspapers for packing or serving food items, citing serious health risks.

West Bengal Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister
Agnimitra Paul chaired a high-level
administrative review meeting at Siliguri. Discussions focused on municipal
affairs, women and child development, social welfare, disaster management,
sanitation, drainage, waste management, traffic regulation and the
implementation of various government schemes.
On World Environment Day 2026, Union Environment Minister Bhupender
Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 18 Namo Oxygen Parks
across Delhi. The government also launched major green initiatives, announced a
target of planting 15 lakh trees.
West Bengal is set to become the 36th State to implement Ayushman Bharat
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which is the world’s largest publicly funded
health assurance scheme.
Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) released a new green Chilli variety
named KAU Thejaswini on 7 June 2026. The variety was developed at the College

Updates--Madrasa Survey: The newly established state government led by Chief
Minister Adhikari has ordered a
statewide survey of madrasas to review their infrastructure and regulatory
compliance.
Railways & Metro Infrastructure: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and
CM Adhikari reviewed a ₹1 lakh crore rail overhaul project, pledging to resolve
land hurdles for 61 pending projects and announcing a Water Metro for Kolkata.
Deportation Crackdown: Under state directives, enforcement agencies have
amplified crackdowns on illegal immigration, resulting in the detention of 18
Bangladeshi nationals in the South 24 Parganas district.
IRAN WAR:
The Israeli army says missiles have been fired from Iran towards Israel,
with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) saying Israel must stop
its attacks on Lebanon.
The IRGC says it targeted Israel’s Ramat David airbase with ballistic
missiles.
An attacker opened fire on people in central Israel, killing one person
and wounding several others before the assailant was shot dead, according to
police.
Tehran, which says its attacks were in response to US assaults on its
coastal region, has condemned what it called a lack of will by Washington to
“reduce tensions and return to the path of stability”.
Recent Armed Clashes at HORMUZ: The US military intercepted and shot
down multiple Iranian one-way attack drones over the waterway that posed an
immediate threat to regional maritime traffic. In retaliation, US Central
Command (CENTCOM) launched targeted airstrikes destroying Iranian coastal radar
systems at two sites, including Qeshm Island and Goruk.
Secret Transits: The US military is quietly routing select ships through
a "sensing layer" channel close to the Omani coastline—roughly 20
miles from Iran—using advanced radar and communication to advise vessels to
turn back if Iranian speedboats or threats are detected
OPEC+ has agreed to raise oil production quotas by 188,000 barrels per
day in July, but analysts say the move is unlikely to ease market pressure
while the war in the Middle East continues to disrupt crude flows through the
Strait of Hormuz.
“Market is
short of physical barrels that can actually move. In that sense, the 188,000
barrels per day increase would be more of a policy signal than a real supply
boost,”

US President Donald Trump said he will not unfreeze Iranian assets or
lift sanctions before a peace agreement is reached with Tehran. In an interview
with a news channel, Mr. Trump said such measures would only be considered
after a deal is finalized. Commenting on Iran’s nuclear programme, he said that
if an agreement is reached with Iran, the United States would oversee the
removal and destruction of Iran’s nuclear-related equipment.
Chinese President is visiting Pyongyang to project a unified stance with
Kim Jong Un against western hegemony.
Massive Papal turnout in Spain: Over 1 million people gathered on the
streets of Madrid to witness Pope Leo's open-air Mass, marking the first papal
visit to the country in 15 years.
Armenian elections: Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has declared victory
in the parliamentary elections as ballot counting continues amid geopolitical tensions
South Korea nominated Han Seong-sook as the next Prime Minister on 7 June 2026.
She is the Minister for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups, and
her nomination requires approval by the 300-member National Assembly.
The 8th India-Indonesia Joint Meeting was held in New Delhi. External
Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono,
co-chaired the meeting.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development
Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has facilitated
the export of the first commercial consignment of Amrapali mangoes from
Jharkhand to the United Kingdom.
NATURAL DISASTERS & MISHAPS:
Bhutan Earthquake Impact: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter
in Punakha, Bhutan, triggered strong tremors across Siliguri, Cooch Behar,
Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. No casualties or property damages have been
reported.
A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao,
prompting widespread tsunami warnings across Asian coastlines and forcing mass
evacuations.
A severe bus crash and subsequent fire near Nassiriya, Iraq left at
least 21 people dead and 19 others injured.
Italian rescue teams have recovered 10 bodies after a vessel carrying
nearly 60 migrants capsized off the Maltese coast.

Tamil Nadu released India’s
first state-level Standard Operating Procedure for Cool Roof Coating
Application on 5 June 2026, World Environment Day. The document sets a
framework for cool roof initiatives as a passive cooling measure for homes,
schools, and public buildings. Cool roof coating is a surface treatment with
high solar reflectance and thermal emittance. It reduces heat absorption by
building roofs and lowers indoor temperatures in hot climates.
India showcased the
indigenous Zorawar light tank and TEJASTRA at Larsen & Toubro’s Hazira
facility in Gujarat in June 2026. The Zorawar platform is a 25-tonne light tank
developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and Larsen &
Toubro for high-altitude combat along the Line of Actual Control. I wrote a BLOG on this about a year ago.
CLIMATE:
Heavy Rainfall Alert: The
weather department has issued an intense rain alert for the next seven days,
warning of heavy downpours in North Bengal and severe thunderstorms with gusty
winds up to 60 km/h in Kolkata and southern districts.
The Southwest Monsoon has
further advanced into some more parts of west central and entire northeast Bay
of Bengal yesterday. According to the India Meteorological Department,
southwest monsoon also advanced into some more parts of northwest Bay of
Bengal, entire Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and some parts of Tripura, Assam and
Arunachal Pradesh.

In Maharashtra, the
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has dismantled a gold smuggling syndicate
under Operation Golden Nexus at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
International Airport. The agency seized 3.2 kilograms of foreign-origin gold
worth around five crore rupees and arrested seven people.
Nearly 30 years after Sun TV
Network had telecast journalist Nakheeran R. Gopal’s 1996 interview with forest
brigand Veerappan, the Madras High Court has directed the television network to
pay damages of ₹10 lakh to actor R. Sukanya for not having edited out
scandalous allegations levelled against her by the interviewee.

(FPIs) offloaded Indian equities worth 42 thousand 927 crore rupees in the
first week of June and remained net sellers during all five trading sessions
