Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark a six day visit to France and Slovakia from 13th June, 2026. In this high level meet he will hold the bilateral meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, alongside participate in the G7 Summit and will also attend the Europe’s largest technology event VivaTech.

The Government  approved 22 new applicants under the third round of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles. The Ministry of Textiles said, a total of 96 companies have been selected under Round-3 of the scheme, with a committed investment of more than 12 thousand 822 crore rupees and a projected turnover exceeding 58 thousand crore rupees.

Centre approved a ₹1,359-crore project on 10 June 2026 for the four-laning of the Nagaur-Bikaner stretch of National Highway-62 in Rajasthan. The project will be executed under the Build-Operate-Transfer model, which is a public-private partnership framework used in highway development.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched Project Ganga to provide high-speed internet connectivity to 20 lakh rural families, train 8,000 digital entrepreneurs, and create over one lakh jobs. The initiative aims to strengthen digital education, telemedicine, e-governance, and rural entrepreneurship.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has refuted certain media reports claiming that Nepal has imposed a ban or suspension on the import of mangoes from India. It said that these reports are factually incorrect and misleading.

 Madhya Pradesh withdrew the two-child norm for eligibility in government jobs and for serving employees in June 2026. BUT—there shall be a limitation for controlling Population!

DEFENCE:

The Indian Army is preparing for what could become its largest artillery modernisation programme in decades, with plans to seek approval for the procurement of more than 300 additional K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers in a deal estimated to be valued at around Rs 23,000 crore.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Ministry of Defence Eyes to Field 10 S-400 and 5 Project Kusha Sqns under “Sudarshan Chakra” Long Range Air Defence Vision.

The country has already inducted four squadrons of the Russian-made S-400 Triumf system, with the fifth and final regiment from the original 2018 contract expected soon.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared  procurement of five additional S-400 regiments in March 2026. This move will eventually double the IAF's S-400 inventory to ten regiments.

The indigenous Zorawar light tank is anticipated to join the Indian Army's arsenal between 2028 and 2029, following the resolution of technical adjustments identified during early testing.

The Defence Ministry  signed a contract worth 449 crore rupees for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy, with a minimum indigenous content of 75 per cent.

GULF WAR:

CENTCOM said its “forces began launching self-defences strikes against Iran”.

Middle East oil producers have cut output by more than 11 million barrels per day (bpd) as the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

HOREMUZ:

“The Strait of Hormuz is NOT international waters but shared between Iran and Oman, and located thousands of miles from US shores,” said Araghchi. “Maritime boundaries are crystal clear.”

At its narrowest point – just 21 nautical miles (equivalent to about 39km) wide – the strait falls entirely within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Iran insists that legally, that gives it and Oman the right to regulate traffic through the strait, even though passage through the waterway has historically been free of restrictions.

The US rejects this interpretation, arguing that the strait is an international passage vital to global shipping and that freedom of navigation must be guaranteed.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

In Tripura, the Sub-Divisional Forest Department in Khowai district has achieved a major success in its ongoing crackdown on illegal logging and timber smuggling, seizing around 220 cubic feet of illegally felled timber and four vehicles used for transportation.

Former Sri Lankan Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena was sentenced to a total of 16 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty on four corruption charges by the Colombo High Court.

ACCIDENTS & MISHAPS: -

Sikkim Military Camp Landslide (India): Continuous heavy rainfall triggered a massive landslide that struck an Indian Army military camp at Chaten in Lachen, Sikkim. Three army personnel were killed, four were rescued with minor injuries, and a search operation is underway for six missing individuals.

Arunachal Pradesh Army Truck Plunge (India): Navigating through inclement weather, an Indian Army truck fell into a deep gorge between Pango and Tuting. One soldier was critically injured and multiple others required emergency evacuation to military base hospitals.

Major Traffic and Road Accidents: Al Khail Road Multi-Bus Crash (Dubai): A severe morning collision involving three transport buses on Al Khail Road (E44) resulted in two deaths and ten injuries. First responders shifted the casualties to local hospitals.

Mumbai BEST Bus Accidents (India): In Mumbai, a city-run BEST bus rammed into two individuals, marking the second major public transit accident in the city this week.

Manipur Highway Collision (India): BJP MLA Heikham Dingo and his security staff sustained serious injuries after their SUV collided with a stationary Tata truck on the highway in Imphal West.

Infrastructure Disruptions:  Goa Tree Collapse (India): Road safety concerns flared in Sattari after a massive jungle tree collapsed onto the Saleli-Zarme road, completely blocking traffic. Emergency fire services cleared the debris; no casualties were reported.

Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir during take-off yesterday, reportedly due to a technical fault. According to ISPR, all personnel on board were killed in the crash.

WEATHER:

Northwest & Central India: A wet spell with rain, thunderstorms, and potential hail is impacting Northwest India. However, parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and West Rajasthan are still experiencing lingering hot, humid, or heatwave conditions. Dust storms are expected in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Kerala & South Peninsula: The monsoon is active in the south, with the IMD issuing orange alerts in districts like Alappuzha and Ernakulam. Widespread thunderstorms, strong surface winds, and moderate-to-heavy rainfall are expected in Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Telangana.

Northeast India: Heavy rainfall continues to lash the northeastern states and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, following the monsoon's recent advancement into the entire region.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY:

NASA on Tuesday revealed the crew for its Artemis III mission, the next step in the space agency’s plan to eventually land astronauts on the moon.

India’s heaviest rocket, the Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM3), which powered the historic Chandrayaan-3 Moon landing mission, is set to enter a new phase as the government initiates the process of transferring the rocket’s technology and operations to the private sector.
