Padma Awards Conferred: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan, honouring Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty, singer Alka Yagnik, actor R. Madhavan, and cricketer Rohit Sharma.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan paid tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day. In a social media post, the Vice President described Dr Mookerjee as a visionary leader, renowned educationist, and staunch patriot.

Lakadong Turmeric Gains Global Recognition :  Lakadong Turmeric is a turmeric variety from the Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya and received Geographical Indication status. It is known for curcumin content of about 7% to 12%, compared with 2% to 3% in many commercial turmeric varieties. Curcumin is the principal bioactive compound in turmeric and is used in food, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

Rajasthan constituted a high-level committee to prepare the draft of The Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code, 2026. The panel was announced on 22 June 2026 after a Cabinet decision taken on 14 April 2026 under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

India plans to transfer Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle technology to private companies through the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, or IN-SPACe, as part of the country’s private space sector framework. The Republican-majority US Senate backed legislation to halt military action against Iran. The Senate voted 50-48 in favour of the concurrent resolution, which passed the House of Representatives earlier this month. The vote was nearly along party lines, with four Republicans joining all but one Democrat in favour. Two Republicans did not vote. The resolution directs Trump to remove US armed forces from hostilities with or against Iran, but is likely to remain merely a symbolic vote.

 Pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this year will be permitted to carry up to 20 kg of essential goods per person into Chinese territory.   The first batch of the pilgrimage is scheduled to depart from New Delhi on June 30 and will arrive at the Dharchula base camp on July 5 for an overnight stay. Pilgrims will also be allowed to carry essential medicines to manage 20 different ailments while inside Tibet.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval underlined to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that stable, predictable and constructive bilateral relations will contribute to enhanced trust and deeper understanding between the two sides.

Lohagad Fort Murder Case: A Pune court sent a woman and her accomplice to police custody until June 29 for allegedly conspiring to murder her fiancé by pushing him into a 400-foot gorge during a trek.

The Supreme Court  stayed the Delhi High Court order directing the premature release of a life-term convict in the 1993 Kolkata Bowbazar blast case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Pankaj Aggarwal, IAS on Monday who was the then Principal Secretary in Department of School Education and Agriculture, in connection with the misappropriation of government funds from the account of Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojana Parishad (HSSPP) and Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board (HSAMB) maintained with the Sector 32, Chandigarh branch of IDFC.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case of corruption against 16 individuals, including the Director General of the Department of Passport, Tirtharaj Aryal, at the special court in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Southwest Monsoon activity is widespread across India, with the India Meteorological Department predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across 18 states. The active monsoon has advanced into the central Arabian Sea, Mumbai, Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

West Coast: Heavy intermittent rain continues, with a Red Weather Warning issued for Mumbai and Palghar for intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

Central & Northern India: The intense heatwaves of early June have largely abated. However, hot and humid conditions remain, with severe heatwave conditions still affecting isolated pockets over Vidarbha and East Uttar Pradesh.

South & East India: Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected, particularly in Telangana and the surrounding eastern states, prompting heavy rainfall alerts.

Northeast India: Persistent heavy rainfall is forecasted to continue throughout the week.

In South Bengal, four people were killed in a tragic lightning strike while crossing a river. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the choppy seas for the next two days.
