DOCTORS’ DAY:

Bidhan Chandra Roy (1 July 1882 – 1 July 1962) was one of India's greatest physicians and statesmen. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1961 for his remarkable contributions to medicine and public service. This day is observed as Doctors’ Day.

MGNREGA Replaced: The state launched the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) to guarantee 125 days of employment for 2.56 crore rural job card holders. 15 LAKH  OF FALSE CARDS GOT ARRESTED.

Mandatory Aadhaar Seeding: To prevent the re-emergence of bogus cards under the new system, the state's Panchayat and Rural Development Ministry has mandated 100% compliance with the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS). New Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards will strictly require biometric verification.

UCC Push & Cabinet Meet: Chief Minister Adhikari announced a massive push for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). A draft bill exempting tribal communities will hit the state cabinet tomorrow, July 2.

21st July Day Ban: Kolkata Police have denied rally permissions to both rival factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Esplanade for the upcoming July 21 anniversary, citing strict prohibitory orders.

Construction Ban  for Audits: Following the fatal Taratala warehouse collapse that killed 11 people, all under-construction commercial projects in Kolkata remain suspended until July 31 for emergency safety audits.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

A special Pune court on Monday sentenced a 65-year-old man to death for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a three-year-old girl in Nasrapur village, a brutal crime that sparked widespread public outrage and protests across Maharashtra, terming the case as "rarest of the rare".

Over 1,970 individuals, including identified criminals and political troublemakers, were arrested or placed under preventive detention in West Bengal following a massive law-and-order crackdown over the past two months.

In Manipur, a joint team of Assam Rifles along with the civil administration, police and medical department conducted a biometric registration drive for displaced Myanmar nationals in Phaikoh, Shangkhalok and Aloyo villages of Kamjong district.
