A special Pune court on Monday sentenced a 65-year-old man
to death for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a three-year-old girl in
Nasrapur village, a brutal crime that sparked widespread public outrage and
protests across Maharashtra, terming the case as "rarest of the
rare".
Over 1,970 individuals, including identified criminals and
political troublemakers, were arrested or placed under preventive detention in
West Bengal following a massive law-and-order crackdown over the past two
months.
In Manipur, a joint team of Assam Rifles along with the
civil administration, police and medical department conducted a biometric
registration drive for displaced Myanmar nationals in Phaikoh, Shangkhalok and
Aloyo villages of Kamjong district.
