The Union Cabinet  approved GOBARDHAN, the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, with a total outlay of 23,731 crore rupees. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Ashwini Vaishnaw said this will create 1.5 lakh jobs.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman  moved the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing in Lok Sabha. The Bill was passed amid din without any discussion. It seeks to amend the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the Finance Act, 2026. The bill will replace the Income-tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, which was promulgated on 5th June this year.

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi  said that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has crossed 50 lakh beneficiary households in India.

NITI Aayog has released a report titled Reimagining Care: Strategies for Empowering Caregivers in Viksit Bharat@2047. The report envisions a comprehensive caregiving ecosystem as a key pillar of inclusive growth and social development while strengthening India’s potential as a global hub for skilled caregiving professionals.

Tamil Nadu announced the Vetri Vaanmagal scheme on 6 August 2026 in the 2026-27 Agriculture Budget. The scheme is designed to train women farmers in operating agricultural drones and to support drone pilot licensing in the state.

FIR Protection Review: The High Court is actively reviewing the vast web of post-election FIRs piled against Banerjee, demanding that state police hand over a transparent accounting of all complaints.

State Cabinet & Administrative Decisions:

Rebranding Welfare Housing: Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari announced that the state cabinet officially renamed the public housing scheme "Banglar Bari" to "Paschim Banga Awas".

State Name Stance: The Chief Minister formally stated that the current BJP-led government will not support renaming the state to "Bangla," asserting that the traditional name "Paschim Banga" is firmly rooted in history.

Public Asset Reopening: The state ordered the immediate removal of tall tin fences masking Elliot Park along Chowringhee Road, declaring public green spaces must remain fully accessible to ordinary citizens.

Backward Classes Panel: The government completely reconstituted the Backward Classes Commission. The new four-member administrative body will be chaired by retired Calcutta High Court Justice Ranjit Kumar Bag.

INNER PARTY DISCIPLINARY ACTION:

Massive Investigation: The BJP’s state discipline committee launched an extensive probe over the last three months, serving formal show-cause notices to more than 250 grassroots leaders and workers.
Suspensions  & Expulsions: Following an review of unsatisfactory explanations, over 30 errant members were permanently expelled, while 22 major party functionaries (including multiple local Mandal Presidents) were placed under immediate  suspension.
Potential  Prosecution: State party leadership confirmed that disciplinary oversight will remain active, warning that any members found guilty of severe financial malpractice could face direct criminal prosecution by state police.

Ministers Agnimitra Paul and Dilip Ghosh publicly backed the clean-up, emphasizing that the party will not replicate the syndicate issues of previous administrations. They highlighted the four newly launched state AI helplines designed to register public extortion complaints directly.

CBI unearthed a syndicate involved in a sophisticated international tech-support fraud and extortion racket, operating through fake call centres and offices across Punjab and Delhi. The CBI conducted raids in the intervening night of 5th and 6th August at ten locations across Punjab and Delhi including a fake call centre running at the premises of the main accused (kingpin) at Mohali, Punjab.

Student protests over recruitment exam issues intensify in Jharkhand. The State Government has initiated efforts to break the deadlock. On the directions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a high-level committee comprising four ministers has been constituted to hold talks with the agitating students.
