PhonePe signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on 20 August 2026 for integration of its enterprise data intelligence platform, PulsePro, into the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan portal. The integration is being coordinated with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics, which works on geospatial and space-based applications for government projects.

New Security Squads: The West Bengal Cabinet gave its nod to create the state’s first dedicated Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), yielding over 460 permanent posts. Simultaneously, an Anti-Narcotics Task Force was launched with specialized police stations mapped for Malda, Nadia, Kharagpur, and Durgapur.

Internal Law & Order: Champahati Explosion Tensions flared in the South 24 Parganas district after a powerful explosion ripped through an alleged illegal firecracker factory in Champahati.

The Incident: Two individuals were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigation: The Baruipur Police District established that the unit was operating deep inside a forested area under the fraudulent guise of a fish trading business. Forensic teams are investigating the exact origin of the blast.

Two Ships Hijacked: In two separate hijackings reported on Thursday, a total of 22 Indian nationals aboard commercial vessels were taken by armed groups off the coasts of Yemen and Somalia. The Grievance: The demonstration targeted the Pakistani military's August 12 airstrikes in the Gidar Goandhan area of Surab, which allegedly killed over 20 civilians, including women and children.

Demands: Protesters urged the UK government and global human rights organizations to mandate an independent investigation. They demanded international watchdogs be granted direct access to verify real-time casualties on the ground. Enforced Disappearances Spark Outrage Human rights groups erupted in condemnation following an early morning raid conducted by Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Frontier Corps (FC) in Quetta's Gashkori Town.

The Detainees: Two women (27-year-old Umaira and 28-year-old Najma) alongside two young children (8-year-old Parisa and an 18-month-old infant, Zakir) were allegedly abducted from their home at 4:00 AM.

GULF WAR:

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Iran to expect the “toughest sanctions in history,” saying the US would seek to “collapse this regime” through coordinated economic isolation. Bessent also warned that countries continuing to do business with Tehran could face US action.

The US announced new sanctions targeting Hezbollah over its alleged links to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and re-designated the group as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, citing them as a threat to US national security.

The new wave of US sanctions aims to stop Iran’s “use” of Hezbollah to “sow chaos across the Middle East and undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty,”.

President Donald Trump has promised economic warfare on Iran on an unprecedented scale.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the threatened US sanctions as “illegal and inhumane,” linking President Trump’s statements to the anniversary of the August 19, 1953, coup that removed Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.

The case is among the highest gallstone counts reportedly treated in the city. NEW CANCER DRUG--RK-251: Formulated by researchers at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati), it is designed to activate only inside tumour cells and spare healthy tissue. This is announced by GOI.
