 Mizoram launched a statewide school cleanliness competition, the ‘Mizoram Green Schools League’, aimed at inculcating habits of hygiene and environmental responsibility among students.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change inaugurated a two-day international workshop in New Delhi on 2 September 2026. The workshop was held on the theme “Tiger Landscapes: Conservation, Bioeconomy and Ecotourism as Pillars for Livelihood and Income Generation” and will end today.

India plans to build 100 new airports over the next 10 years under the regional connectivity framework known as UDAN. The expansion has a central budgetary outlay of ₹28,840 crore for FY 2026–27 to FY 2035–36.

 Gollala gudi Temple, also called Gollala Gudi, in Palampet village of Mulugu district, Telangana, was declared a monument of national importance through a gazette notification issued by the Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 1 September 2026.

Lak kundi in Gadag district of Karnataka is the site of a six-month LiDAR survey and geospatial mapping project. . The project uses non-invasive digital tools to locate buried structures linked to the Kalyana-Chalukya era, which dates to the 10th to 12th centuries CE.

The post office has been upgraded under the Post Office Modernisation Scheme. People will get Speed Post, Savings Bank, Postal Life Insurance, Aadhaar, Parcel and financial services at one place. All Pos Offices at all Villages, first shall be upgraded to this ‘STATUS’.

Jharkhand has witnessed an increase in cases of swine flu, H1N1 infection. A total of 36 cases has been reported across the state in the past 30 days, including 18 children and adolescents.

Chief Minister Adhikari announced that the state government will organize a grand, historic celebration for Mahalaya on October 10 to mark the beginning of Durga Puja in the State, since the BJP seized power in West Bengal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have been formally invited to Kolkata for this mega event.

The West Bengal State Election Commission instructed all D.M.s to completely wrap up the municipal general election delimitation process by the second week of September across six key districts, including Darjeeling, Howrah, and South 24 Parganas.

In Balurghat (Dakshin Dinajpur), Chief Minister Adhikari personally steered a road roller over two lakh bottles of codeine-based cough syrup as part of a massive symbolic destruction drive for the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign. He ordered a two-week statewide crackdown on illegal liquor dens and narcotics.

Dengue Situation "Serious But Not Alarming": Chief Minister Adhikari held an emergency health review, identifying five high-risk dengue districts: Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and Murshidabad. He strictly ordered hospital administrations not to suppress or underreport positive dengue numbers and deployed liquid larvicides statewide.

Fresh U.S. Kinetic Strikes: For the second time in three days, the U.S. military launched fresh airstrikes targeting Iranian radar installations and mobile asset frameworks near Sirik. The Pentagon stated the strikes were direct retaliation for continued Iranian minelaying.

Iran  warned that it would adopt a new strategy in its ongoing conflict with the United States following the latest escalation between the two sides.

Iran Broadens Tanker Blacklist: The Iran-backed Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) added 11 more oil tankers to its shipping blacklist, bringing the total to 56 vessels. Tehran declared these blacklisted ships are subject to immediate detention or financial confiscation if they attempt navigation.

The "Trump Strait" Proposal: President Donald Trump sparked severe global diplomatic backlash by posting on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz should be formally renamed the "Trump Strait". Trump asserted that the waterway is now under absolute U.S. military command.

Economic Fallout: Amidst the renewed strikes, Iran’s currency (the Rial) collapsed to a historic low of 2.2 million Rials per US Dollar. Concurrently, Brent crude prices pushed higher as oil traders anticipated a prolonged chokepoint shutdown.

NEPAL FLASH FLOOD:

Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods: Death Toll Tops 1,200Casualties Surge: One week after the catastrophic glacial-rock collapse, the official death toll in Nepal surged to 1,222. Over 4,875 individuals remain missing, including 583 foreign nationals, some of those believed to be trapped in the tunnels along the course of the Bhotekoshi river and underground powerhouses, as joint rescue forces struggle to comb through hardened mud debris.

Hydropower Tunnel Rescues: More than 21,000 security personnel used heavy explosives and air pumps to blast open blocked hillsides at the Trishuli-3A hydropower facility. Rescuers are racing against time to locate an estimated 600 workers still trapped inside sub-surface tunnel structures.

India sends fifth aircraft carrying relief material to flood-hit Nepal. India continues to offer rescue and relief assistance to Nepal, with a fifth Indian Air Force flight carrying humanitarian assistance reaching Kathmandu yesterday. It carried about 5.5 tonnes of medical supplies, including antibiotics, analgesics, surgical items and other essential medicines.

 A 19-member Indian forensic team has begun analysing DNA samples alongside forensic experts to assist in identifying people affected by the recent flash floods in Nepal. The Indian Embassy said that the team commenced the analysis at the Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory and the National Forensic Science Laboratory in the Khumaltar area of Kathmandu Valley.

Yatra Pilgrims Untraceable: Frantic families in Maharashtra, India, appealed for help as a group of 10 pilgrims from Thane remained completely out of contact near the Timure Chinese immigration checkpoint. A prominent group of 44 Indians—including former DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy—are currently sheltered safely in Saga while waiting for Chinese authorities to formalize an  alternative overland exit route. Isha Foundation Group: Communication remains fractured for a 77-member pilgrimage block affiliated with the foundation.

The "Private Route" Tracking Challenge: Delhi and state officials are actively auditing private tour registries. Because the official government-run Yatra via the Lipulekh Pass bypasses Nepal entirely, hundreds of Indians who chose cheaper private packages running through Nepal are harder to map, forcing officials to gather data directly from localized operators to trace missing persons.

LAW, CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

The Central Consumer Protection Authority, CCPA has imposed a 10 Lakh rupees Penalty on a private limited company for Online Listing and Sale of Explosive Substance without Mandatory Safeguards.

The Enforcement Directorate is conducting searches at 12 locations in different States in the case of the illegal betting platform Parimatch and others. Searches are being carried out at five locations in Maharashtra, four in Delhi- NCR, two in Rajasthan and at one location in Gujarat under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

A major security breach was reported at the 20 Madras Regiment’s weapons storage facility in Bolaram, Secunderabad Cantonment, Telangana.

Bolaram Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by the Adjutant of the 20 Madras Regiment.

Two Bangladeshi nationals illegally staying in the national capital were apprehended by Delhi Police. During verification of their identity, it was revealed that both the individuals had entered India last month without valid visas and were staying in India without valid authorisation.

In Himachal Pradesh: Continuing monsoon-related disasters have caused 259 deaths over the past 64 days, with 150 roads currently blocked, according to the state emergency authorities.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL: -

🌐 UN Blames Climate Lukewarmness: Mafalda Duarte, executive director of the UN Green Climate Fund, issued a stark warning citing the Nepal floods. She criticized global leadership for letting geopolitical conflicts overshadow critical climate funding deadlines.

Nepal government also blamed ‘GLOBAL WORMIMING’ for this disaster.

WEATHER:

A low-pressure system dumped historic volumes of rain, with Birbhum's Sriniketan logging 263 mm and Paschim Bardhaman's Burnpur hitting 214 mm. In Bankura, the Dwarakeswar River overflowed, completely submerging the Bhadul Bridge and cutting off 20 villages. Concurrently, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) released 99,800 cusecs of water due to rising upstream reservoirs.

🏏 Women's Champions Trophy 2027: The ICC has shifted the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy from Sri Lanka to India. Mumbai and Vadodara will host the six-team tournament from 14–28 February 2027.

Asian Games 2026: The 20th Asian Games will take place in Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. India will compete in 36 disciplines at Aichi-Nagoya.

The Indian Rupee (INR) is trading near an eight-week high against the US Dollar today, resting at ₹94.48. Persistent, tactical market smoothing executed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) combined with strong foreign bank capital flows has effectively anchored the local currency. This intervention is successfully cushioning the Rupee against intense global headwinds, including local equity slides and skyrocketing energy bills.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said its special US dollar-Indian rupee (USD-INR) forex swap facility has received forex inflows of over 136 billion US dollars till August 31, 2026. Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR-B] deposits accounted for the overwhelming majority, amounting to 127.2 billion US dollars.

The Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR) upgraded India’s foreign currency and local currency long-term issuer ratings to A- from BBB+ on 2 September 2026. JCR also assigned a Stable outlook and raised India’s country ceiling to A.

On Wednesday, the Nifty 50 shed 141.35 points (0.59%) to close at 23,914.45, sliding decisively below its key 24,000 baseline. Concurrently, the 30-share BSE Sensex slumped 373.93 points (0.49%) to settle at 76,570.35.
