The city of Lord Krishna Mathura Vrindavan, is decked up for the grand celebration today on the occasion of Janmashtami. Over 5 lakh devotees expected to visit the city. The President, Smt Droupadi Murmu has extended greetings to the citizens on the eve of Janmashtami.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today chaired a high-level meeting in Mumbai to review Self-Help Group-bank linkages and individual enterprise financing under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). He said that the Prime Minister had reiterated the commitment to increase the number of Lakhpati Didi from three crore to six crore.

Two-day Drass Festival to begin today  in Ladakh:  In Ladakh, the upcoming two-day Drass Festival, scheduled for September 4 and 5, will provide a major platform to showcase the tourism, cultural and adventure potential of Drass, recently announced as a new district.

In Maharashtra, a new daily express train between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Sawantwadi Road in the Sindhudurg district of Konkan was inaugurated yesterday.

Bihar has been witnessing a continuous rise in the water level of the Ganga in Patna and several other districts. This has increased the threat of floods in new areas.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal lauded the small and medium enterprises industries for playing a pivotal role in achieving 7.8 percent GDP growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

Land Subsidence Halts North-South Bengal Trains  Track Collapse: Continuous torrential monsoon downpours triggered severe land subsidence under the railway tracks between the New Farakka and Kalidanga railway stations in Murshidabad district.

Cancellations Enforced: With the ground giving way beneath the sleepers, Eastern Railway officials immediately suspended operations along the trunk line to prevent a major derailment. Multiple major express trains running between Kolkata and North Bengal were cancelled, cutting off key transit corridors.

Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay announced a massive state-level crackdown on B.Ed. colleges functioning across West Bengal.

Degree Mill Warning: The government warned that institutions lacking mandatory infrastructural requirements or found participating in the clandestine sale of fraudulent degrees will face immediate closure and criminal sealing actions.

India and Belgium have deepened defense cooperation, with 10 agreements covering areas including rockets and military hardware. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also raised India's concerns regarding the sharing of sensitive defense technology with Pakistan.

Russia–Ukraine: Ukraine continues to seek diplomatic avenues to end the war, while fighting and tensions with Russia remain ongoing. Ukraine has welcomed India's call for an end to the conflict.

A U.S. federal judge in Maryland has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to restrict birthright citizenship. The ruling came on September 2, 2026, following a legal challenge by immigrant-rights groups and affected families.

GULF WAR:

Gulf War erupted into its heaviest direct kinetic exchanges in weeks, shattering a month-long operational lull. A series of intense U.S. preemptive bombardments met widespread retaliatory missile and drone salvos from Iran targeting multi-nation military installations across the Gulf region.

U.S. bombardments struck regular military and paramilitary Basij networks across Lavan Island and coastal installations in western and southern Iran.

Major international friction mounted on 2 September after heavy U.S. airstrikes heavily hit Kuhestak in Sirik County (along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz). Local authorities and state news agencies confirmed that a projectile struck a residential home hosting a wedding gathering, killing at least 4 civilians (including two children) and wounding 68 others.

The Pentagon acknowledged the incident reports but reiterated its long-standing operational baseline that the U.S. military "never targets civilians."

Military Death Toll: Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency conceded that the U.S. strikes killed 13 Iranian military personnel this week, including regular military pilots, Basij members, and IRGC Aerospace Force operators.  

In immediate retaliation , the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) executed a massive, coordinated salvo of ballistic missiles and suicide drones targeting U.S. military infrastructure positioned across six countries:

Kuwait & Bahrain Dragged In: Early on Wednesday, air defense units in Bahrain and Kuwait were forced into active combat operations. Kuwaiti firefighters rushed to contain an infrastructure blaze after an Iranian drone successfully breached perimeters, while Bahrain intercepted several incoming aerial threats. 

The Jordan Incursion: Jordan's armed forces reported tracking an intense missile corridor over its airspace, successfully intercepting 10 out of 13 incoming Iranian ballistic missiles launched at a U.S. base, with three falling in remote terrain.

UAE on Alert: The UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that its localized missile defenses successfully engaged and neutralized rogue drones sent toward its territorial waters.

The Battle for Hormuz & The "Trump Strait" Proposal: The Transit Dispute: A fierce narrative war broke out regarding the actual volume of oil bypassing the blockaded waterway. The Trump administration claimed a massive wartime record, stating that up to 18 million barrels of oil crossed safely under U.S. naval escort on Tuesday. However, independent commodity tracking data from firms like Kpler showed a much starker reality, tracking only 6 commodity vessels transiting on Wednesday (down from 11 a day earlier).

The Name Change Controversy: On 2 September, President Donald Trump sparked global diplomatic astonishment by posting on Truth Social that the strategic waterway should be permanently renamed:

"Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be 'hotter' than ever before!"

Tehran's Counter-Claim: The IRGC Navy strongly rejected Trump's claim of "total control," stating that two commercial tankers had recently struck newly laid sea mines, proving that Iran still dictates security in the passage.

Several international commercial airlines have systematically suspended flights to and from major hubs across the Persian Gulf, Jordan, and Lebanon as of September 4, 2026. The move follows strict, newly extended safety directives from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and global aviation bureaus to entirely avoid conflict-heavy Middle Eastern and Gulf airspace.

NEPAL FLASH FLOOD:

The death toll from the devastating Nepal-Tibet flash floods has surged to 1252. According to the data released by Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 4216 people are still missing.

Joint rescue forces led by the Nepal Army, alongside specialized international teams, entered their ninth day of operations under extreme environmental gridlock.

On the Tibetan side of the border, Chinese state media reported 21 confirmed fatalities and 541 people missing.

Indian Diplomatic and Forensic Report: The official Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) ledger confirms that 158 Indian nationals have been safely extricated via military corridors. However, 288 Indians remain completely uncontactable across the Rasuwa zone, with communication towers only partially restored.

 The Core Crisis: The Battle for the Hydropower Tunnels: The most intense, high-stakes operations are centered on the Mud-Choked Tunnel Grids of six ruined hydropower plants.

The Scale: An estimated 900 workers remain trapped or missing in the Tunnels. The flash floods completely altered the topography around the facilities, packing the entry shafts tightly with layers of hardened rock, mud, and debris.

Indian Base Shifted: The Indian Tunnel Rescue Team successfully advanced its forward operating post to Syabrubesi on Wednesday night. This critical relocation slashes transit times directly to the Chilima Power House and Langtang grids, where Indian teams are using heavy excavators and airline rigs to pierce the blocked shafts. Indian Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra visited the epicenter base, affirming that teams will push forward "undeterred" by the volatile terrain.

International Relief Bottlenecks : The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kathmandu, Lila Pieters Yahia, issued a stark warning stating that delivering core food and medicine to survivors has become "very, very, very difficult" due to wiped-out valley roads. The UN is currently assessing the emergency deployment of cargo drones and high-altitude porters to reach to cut-off epicenters.

Tamil Nadu Free DNA Drive: Due to severe decomposition bottlenecks at local morgues, the Tamil Nadu government announced free, expedited DNA testing facilities for families. This allows relatives of missing pilgrims from the state to provide reference samples to help the 19-member Indian medical forensics team currently stationed in Kathmandu scientifically verify recovered bodies.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a joint search operation in Reasi district. The search operation was conducted by 58 Rashtriya Rifles and SOG at Khataji village in Mahore tehsil of Reasi district. It neutralise and disrupt attempts of TERROIST activities in the region.

The Andhra Pradesh govt. on Thursday revoked the suspension of senior IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni,  and ordered their immediate reinstatement.

Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Union Government to take immediate and necessary action to facilitate the use of Tamil as the principal language of the Madras High Court.

The Bombay High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the death of Disha Salian, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in the Mumbai suburbs. AFTER 6 YEARS, Mi Lord!!

To identify unidentified and unclaimed deceased persons kept in government mortuaries across the state, Punjab has launched a digital public identification portal, “Pehchaan”.

OBITUARY:

Gaurang Vyas, one of the prominent names in Gujarati music, has passed away in Ahmedabad at the age of 87. The veteran composer, arranger and singer worked across Gujarati cinema, folk music and light music for several decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief following Gaurang Vyas' death.

Hyderabad-based defence start-up Apollyon Dynamics has set a new benchmark in drone warfare with its Ahuti MK-II, an electric multi-rotor interceptor that achieved a certified speed of 498 km/h, earning recognition in the India Book of Records as the fastest multi-rotor UAV in India.
