Today is “National Engineers” Day in India,
celebrated on September 15 to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary
engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Sir M. Visvesvaraya (born in 1861), is widely

The National Highways Authority of India
(NHAI) will upgrade its existing 1033 National Highway Helpline with advanced

The Special Campaign 6.0 will be launched between the 2nd and 31st of next

The Rishikesh-Karna Prayag Rail Project
recorded its 41st tunnel breakthrough on 11 September 2026 with the completion
of Escape Tunnel-1. The 125-km railway line is being developed by Rail Vikas
Nigam Limited under the Ministry of Railways at an estimated cost of Rs 37,000
crore, and its target date for completion is December 2029.
The WCEF 2026 will be held in Gandhinagar,
Gujarat, India from September 15 to 18, which would be the first such forum to
be held in South Asia. WCEF 2026 will be organized under the theme “Circular
Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity” and will gather over 2,000
delegates from over 65 countries to engage in discussions related to real
solutions, investments and policy matters concerning the circular economy.
BENGAL FILES:
Madrasa Crackdown: The state government
ordered the immediate closure of 252 independent Islamic educational
institutions (predominantly from the Khariji sect) after discovering severe
infrastructural deficiencies and lack of registration. The highest number of
closures occurred in Maldah (44) and Uttar Dinajpur (37). The decision has
sparked a severe political faceoff between the ruling BJP and the Trinamool
Congress (TMC).
Renaming Kolkata Thoroughfares: A newly
formed 10-member state advisory panel, headed by Kartik Maharaj, announced it
is reviewing proposals to rename multiple public infrastructure sites. This
includes plans to rename three iconic Kolkata roads originally named after
communist leaders: Lenin Sarani, Karl Marx Sarani, and Ho Chi Minh Sarani. The
official review will commence after Durga Puja.
TMC Rebellion Escalates: Ahead of the
October 6 assembly by polls, the rebel TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee
announced its own candidates for the critical Nandigram and Rejinagar seats.
Mohammad Eteshamul Haque will contest from Nandigram, officially locking heads
with candidates from the mainstream Mamata Banerjee-led faction amidst ongoing
legal disputes over the party's official symbol and name.
Bus Fare Hike Warning: West Bengal
Transport Minister Arjun Singh indicated that a private bus fare hike is
heavily overdue. While fares will remain stable for the festive season, a price
increase is anticipated right after Durga Puja alongside mandated improvements
to passenger amenities.

The Government has approved export of power
for eighteen hours a day to Nepal Electricity Authority till the 31st of
December this year. The Ministry of Power said the approval has been given for up
to six hundred Megawatt of export through Muzaffarpur – Dhalkebar line and up
to 54 Megawatt through Tanakpur – Mahendranagar line.

IRAN WAR:
The Houthis have seized the islands of
Greater and Lesser Hanish in the southern Red Sea, adding that Saudi jets
launched 54 air strikes in the last 24 hours.
Yemen’s Houthis launched a large-scale
ballistic missile and drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid Air Base in
Khamis Mushatt and claimed “direct hits”. There was no immediate response from
Riyadh.
Iran says a planned meeting with Gulf
states regarding control over the Strait of Hormuz has been postponed by Saudi
Arabia over the recent events in Yemen.
Ground fighting intensifies on several
fronts in Yemen as Saudi-backed government forces carry out air strikes on
Houthi positions in an attempt to retake Mocha, days after the Houthis captured
the strategic port city.
“The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition
will deal with these attacks responsibly and firmly to protect the sovereignty
of the Kingdom, civilian objects, and civilians from these heinous attacks” in
accordance with international law and the UN Charter’s principle of
self-defence, Major-General Turki al-Malikha said.
The United States is unlikely to have any
direct involvement in the war in Yemen in the short term, American University
professor and former senior US diplomat William Lawrence told Al Jazeera.
NEPAL FLOOD:
Casualties & Displacement: Over 1,300
bodies have been recovered across the hardest-hit districts, including Rasuwa,
Nuwakot, and Dhading. More than 3,700 displaced residents are currently
surviving in temporary aid shelters.
The Missing: Out of the 5,130 unaccounted
for, around 900 are power station workers trapped in submerged hydropower
tunnels, and 587 are foreign nationals.
Energy Infrastructure Wiped Out: The deluge
completely destroyed or severely damaged more than 12 hydropower plants in the
Bagmati province, wiping out about 10% of Nepal's power generation capacity.
Nepal, which previously exported surplus energy, now faces severe domestic
blackouts.
Latest Reconstruction & Diplomatic
Developments--Emergency Power from India: To mitigate the energy crisis, the
Indian Ministry of Power approved the emergency export of up to 654 megawatts
of electricity to Nepal. The supply began running for 18 hours a day and will
continue through December 31.
Call for Climate Justice: Prime Minister
Balendra Shah announced plans to address the UN General Assembly later this
month. Nepal is aggressively appealing to wealthier nations and the UN Fund for
Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) for immediate financial compensation,
arguing that the nation is bearing the deadly brunt of climate change despite
contributing minimally to global emissions.
Border Rebuilding: The government is
seeking bilateral assistance from China to reconstruct the critical
Syabrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road section, a key border trade route heavily damaged
by the debris.

arrested a CGST superintendent and a consultant after an alleged ₹1 crore bribe
demand linked to the redevelopment of government-owned flats in New Panvel,
Maharashtra.
The Supreme Court has launched Jan Soochna
Seva in Hindi-on-Hindi Diwas, offering simplified summaries of key judgments
along with audio and video bulletins.
The Human Rights Council of
Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir has expressed concern over prolonged
protests and unrest in the region, particularly in Rawalakot and the districts
of Poonch and Sudhnooti. The rights body said the demonstrations have now completed
100 days, created uncertainty and affected the wider region. It warned that any
further delay in meaningful dialogue could deepen public frustration, mistrust
and instability.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
informed that, as on date, the Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign has
reached more than 34.54 crore citizens. These include over 13.70 crore youth
and 10.64 crore women.

circulating on social media about various government schemes, which are being
spread through AI-generated videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The
Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check Unit has clarified that the video is fake

Ebola Cases Top Seven Thousand in
Democratic Republic of Congo. The fastest-growing outbreak of the disease shows
no sign of slowing down.
Bangladesh reported 1,022 deaths to
confirmed measles and suspected measles cases since March 15, while dengue has
claimed 149 lives so far this year. According to the Directorate General of
Health Services (DGHS), seven children died with suspected measles symptoms,
while 905 new suspected measles cases and 63 confirmed cases in the last 24
hours.

India’s Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) has advanced its indigenous unmanned strike capability with
the SWIFT-K, a high-speed stealth kamikaze drone designed for rapid, one-way
precision attacks. The system combines turbojet propulsion, stealth shaping,
and autonomous navigation, marking a significant leap in India’s drone warfare
technology.
Rudram missile development continues to
progress, with Rudram-3 positioned as an advanced hypersonic air-to-surface and
anti-radiation missile designed for a range of 550 to 600 kilometres.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has unveiled
its indigenously designed Light Utility Helicopter, a three-ton class,
single-engine platform built to meet the demanding operational needs of the
Indian Armed Forces in extreme environments.
India’s DRDO has achieved a landmark
breakthrough in semiconductor technology, successfully fabricating indigenous
Gallium Nitride (GaN) chips and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits
(MMICs) for radar and electronic warfare systems. A single chip measuring just
3.5 x 3 mm delivers 30 watts of power at speeds 300 times faster than silicon.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and
Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced that Gujarat has achieved a major
environmental milestone by completing mangrove plantation across 27,000
hectares in Kutch under the ‘MISHTI’ scheme, accomplishing a significant
portion of its 29,000-hectare target.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)
has forecast heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Haryana,
Chandigarh and Delhi tomorrow. Similar Weather Conditions are also expected to
