Union Home Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the third
national conference of chiefs of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on 22
September 2026 in New Delhi
Assam Chief Minister performed
the Bhumi Pujan and laid the foundation stone of the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking
and Command Network (ISTRAC) Advanced Radar Research Facility at Chandrapur in
Kamrup Metropolitan district.
The 9th India International Water Week 2026 begins in New

The National Highways Authority of India has released new
guidelines for the planning and designing of High-Speed Access controlled
National Highways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said, the
guidelines will apply to all upcoming 4 and 6 lane Greenfield and Brownfield
High-speed access controlled National Highways.
Gwalior is set to get Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing
Zone with ₹5,500 crore investment, 18,000 direct jobs and 24–25 proposed
telecom manufacturing units.
The 7th National Formulary of India (NFI) was launched on 21
September 2026 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Smt.
Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals
& Fertilizers, unveiled the publication during the 6th National

In Karnataka: The state is holding a special session, with
the Kasturirangan report among the issues in focus; farmers' protests are also

In Kerala: Six districts are under an orange alert for heavy
rain; the state is also using recycled plastic extensively in road

In Andhra Pradesh: IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy
rainfall from September 22–24, particularly in coastal districts, as a Bay of
Bengal weather system approaches.
BENGAL
UPDATE:
The West Bengal government has begun the process of
identifying land for the proposed Kalyani Greenfield Airport project, aimed at
reducing the pressure on Kolkata Airport and further expanding air connectivity
in South Bengal. Around 2,000 acres of land across nine mouzas, including
Kalyani and Birpara, have been identified in the Nadia district.
Writers’ Buildings Restoration Fast-Tracked: The state government announced that
structural renovation work at Kolkata’s iconic Writers' Buildings—the historic
seat of power—has been expedited. Officials confirmed that the administrative
secretariats for Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari and five other cabinet
ministers are scheduled to be fully operational and ready for occupation by 10
October 2026.
Election Commission announced plans to scale up tribunals in
the state from 19 to 42. The Commission is scheduled to apprise the Supreme
Court of this proposal, aiming to place exactly one tribunal in each of West
Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. This will expedite resolution on applications
from citizens whose names were omitted during the Special Intensive Revision
(SIR) of electoral rolls.
AITMC is divided and renamed. One group is named as Mamata
All India Trinamool Congress. Their interim logo features a "Football
Player" in the center, enclosed in a blue and white background. Meanwhile,
the rival faction has been designated as the Democratic Trinamool Congress
using an 'Envelope' symbol.

The WWF Global Conservation Conference was inaugurated in
Jaipur, Rajasthan, on 21 September 2026. Union Environment, Forest, and Climate
Change Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the conference, which was attended
by representatives from more than 100 countries. The World-Wide Fund for
Nature, or WWF, is an international non-governmental organization founded in
1961.
India gets fresh support for permanent UNSC seat. Hungary,
Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic — the Visegrad Group — have
collectively backed India's demand for a permanent seat on the UN Security
Council during the 81st UN General Assembly.
India and New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will come
into force from 20th of October this year, on Vijay Dashami.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is leading India's
delegation during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly in New
York. He is scheduled to address the UNGA on September 26 and is holding
bilateral meetings with foreign ministers.
India's External Affairs Ministry has highlighted India's
continuing trade deficit with China in its latest annual report, even as
bilateral relations have been stabilizing.
India and Canada have agreed to fast-track negotiations for
a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with the next round of
talks set to commence 5th October.
UN General Assembly: World leaders are gathering in New York
for the UN General Assembly, with wars, climate change, AI risks, and global
economic pressures among the major issues.
Russian Central Election Commission said that the ruling
United Russia party has won 57.83 per cent of the votes in the election for the
9th State Duma, the lower house of parliament. The results will help President
Vladimir Putin maintain his tight grip on power.
Russia–Ukraine war: Russia launched strikes on Zaporizhzhia
and other Ukrainian regions after Ukraine carried out a large drone attack on
Russia. Civilian casualties and damage are unknown.
The US and China are preparing for a September 23–25 summit
involving President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping. Expected discussion
areas include trade, AI, supply chains, and geopolitical tensions.
US–China AI cooperation: The US has proposed an emergency
notification mechanism with China for serious AI incidents that could affect
national security.
GULF
WAR: A Detailed Review.
The US–Iran War has escalated into a critical phase as
military confrontations, commercial blockades, and diplomatic friction
intensify following months of active conflict. Both nations are trading severe
threats alongside ongoing proxy battles across the Middle East.
1. Diplomatic
Standoff & Trump’s "Deciding Mode"--U.S. Demands: US President
Donald Trump stated he is in a "deciding mode" regarding the war. He
publicly narrowed Washington’s options to three paths: "wiping them out
[Iran], letting Iran rot economically, or making a deal".
2. Separate legislation signed by Trump grants
the authority to levy up-to-100% tariffs on countries purchasing Russian or
Iranian oil and gas.
3. Iran's
Conditions: Iran reportedly channeled 7 conditions to end the war to the U.S.
via Qatari mediators. However, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher
Ghalibaf declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain blocked to adversarial
traffic until the U.S. fulfills its prior commitments.
4. UN
Assembly Bound: Despite the conflict, the U.S. is allowing Iranian President
Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to enter New York for the
upcoming UN General Assembly. Araghchi is transiting via Qatar en route.
5. Strait
of Hormuz Blockade & Tanker Attacks--Double Strike on Tankers: The United
Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that two commercial tankers
were hit in the Strait of Hormuz. The UK-flagged tanker La Stephanie was struck
by an unknown projectile/drone, injuring two crew members, while an LPG tanker
was later hit by falling projectile debris.
6. Counter-Blockades:
Iran continues its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz to pressure the U.S. Iraqi
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi noted that Iraqi tankers are being denied passage
by Iran, costing Iraq roughly $60 billion in revenue since hostilities began.
Concurrently, the U.S. maintains a naval counter-blockade of Iranian ports and
has moved to ground all Iranian airlines worldwide.
7. The
Yemen Front & Called-Off U.S. Strikes--Aborted Airstrikes: Media reports
indicate that President Trump prepared to launch significant U.S. airstrikes
against the Houthis following an escalation, but aborted the operation at the
last minute while planes were already loading munitions
8. Houthi Push: In Yemen, Iran-backed Houthi
fighters have launched a renewed push to seize strategic highlands, attempting
to sever the Red Sea coast from Saudi-backed government forces. This follows a
major Houthi missile attack targeting Saudi Arabia's capital city, Riyadh, near
its main airport.
9. International
Adjustments: The UK has agreed to a Saudi request to provide defensive
air-to-air refueling to help stabilize Gulf airspace. Meanwhile, the Houthis
have reportedly sent assurances to Washington through Oman that they will not
target U.S. vessels directly in the Red Sea, warning other countries instead
not to assist Saudi Arabia.
10. Broad
Impact & Munition Shortfalls--Economic Toll: Economic data indicates Iran's
GDP has contracted by more than 10% since the war's outbreak, severely
worsening its domestic cost-of-living and fuel crises. The Pentagon informed
Congress that the war has cost the U.S. $45.1 billion so far.
11. U.S.
Munitions Bottleneck: A report from the U.S. Department of Defense Inspector
General warned that the prolonged conflict has triggered structural shortfalls
and supply chain bottlenecks in American munitions reserves.

The Telangana High Court has ordered status quo concerning
the Full Tank Level (FTL) land dispute around Ameenpur Lake, restricting
construction/development in the disputed area pending further proceedings.
The Enforcement Directorate has charge sheeted Ease My Trip
co-founder Nishant Pitti in the high-profile Mahadev online betting app money
laundering case, alleging his role in channeling illegal betting proceeds into
the Indian equity market.
Indian Railways has intensified ticket inspections; reports
say 18 lakh passengers were detected without proper tickets, with ₹140.8 crore
recovered in the latest enforcement drive.
There might be disruptions in banking facilities in India
from September 28 till 30 because the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has
decided to organize a three-day nationwide strike in relation to the

In Bihar, six children drowned in floodwaters while taking a
bath in Tareta Narayanpur village under Sultanganj police station in Bhagalpur
district today. All the deceased children are reportedly between 10 and 12
years of age. They have been identified as residents of Ward Number 27 of

The India
Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued high-intensity weather alerts:
Odisha & Andhra Pradesh: Placed under a Red Alert for
extremely heavy to torrential rainfall as the system moves closer to the coast.
West Bengal: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are battering
coastal and Gangetic districts. Strong winds reaching 40–50 kmph have triggered
strict bans on fishermen entering the deep sea.
Telangana & Kerala: Anticipating heavy to very heavy
localized rainfall accompanied by squally winds over the next 48 hours.

(North & West India)
Delhi-NCR: Expected to remain mostly dry as the monsoon
retreats. Drier conditions will push daytime temperatures slightly higher.
Rajasthan & Punjab: Skies are clearing out. Notably,
Jaisalmer in Rajasthan recorded the country's highest temperature at 40.3°C due
to the onset of post-monsoon dry heat.

Goalkeeper Savita Punia of India has broken Vandana
Katariya’s record to become the most capped Indian women’s hockey player by

Indian Oil Corporation approved an investment of ₹2,448.70
crore for the Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline project on 21
September 2026. The pipeline will cover 424.65 kilometers and connect Kochi in
Kerala with Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu through the Kanyakumari region.
