India will not compromise on its national security and will be prepared to carry out strikes against terrorists as long as a neighboring country continues to "propagate terrorism", Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said at NDTV defense summit.

Bank strike deferred — The proposed three-day nationwide bank strike is deferred after discussions between the Indian Banks' Association and bank unions.

NMDC Ltd. commissioned an integrated iron ore processing, slurry pipeline, and pellet-making plant (₹5,427 crore) in Chhattisgarh on 27 and 28 September 2026.

Uttar Pradesh set a target of increasing annual exports from about ₹2 lakh crore to ₹5 lakh crore by 2030. The export plan is linked to the state’s wider goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy.

India’s first LNG-powered train was flagged off on 27 September 2026 from Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The train uses a diesel-plus-LNG dual-fuel system and runs with two 1,400 HP Driving Power Cars converted at the Sabarmati Integrated Coaching Depot.

India’s first port-based e-methanol production facility is being developed at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat. The project is a joint initiative of Deendayal Port Authority, with 76% ownership, and Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd, with 24% ownership. The total investment for the project is ₹2,300 crore, and the planned production capacity is 150 tons per day.

The cultural heritage and sporting achievements of Tamil Nadu are being presented through 31 mementos in the PM Mementos e-Auction this year. The collection features sacred traditions, classical art, traditional craftsmanship, historic figures, and sporting memorabilia from across the state.

Rabi-season preparations — Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called for coordinated planning and scientific assessment for the coming Rabi season. Central teams will visit Karnataka and Maharashtra to assess drought conditions.

• By polls and Voter Roll Dispute: The Supreme Court declined to advance an urgent hearing regarding voter exclusions under the Special Intensive Revision Chief Justice Surya Kant remarked, "These are only by-elections," keeping the hearing scheduled for October 5.

• MLA Disqualification Deadline: Apex court urged the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to rule on the defection and disqualification proceedings against 10 rebel MLAs from the Ritabrata Banerjee faction by October 8.

• TMC Symbol & Name Row: In a parallel case, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to resolve the formal party leadership and symbol dispute between the rival factions led by Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee within three months.

• ICT Teachers Sit-In: Around 1,000 contractual Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teachers launched a major sit-in protest near the Education Department headquarters in Kolkata. • Health Campaign Launch: The West Bengal Health Department officially commenced a statewide nine-day awareness campaign on safe and legal abortion services to mark International Safe Abortion Day.

• India Energy Week Host: Chief Minister Adhikari announced that West Bengal will host India Energy Week (Bharat Shakti Saptah) in Kolkata in January next year, aimed at drawing global investments and boosting employment.

• Political Clash Over Capital: During a "Yuva Samvad Conclave" in Kolkata, BJP National President Nitin Nabin strongly criticized the state's ruling administration, alleging a severe flight of capital and the closure of 6,700 companies over the last 15 years.

✈️ India–Mongolia direct flight begins — A new non-stop New Delhi–Ulaanbaatar service has started, reducing travel time between the two capitals to about five hours.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reached Doha in Qatar to participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the AIIB Investors Dialogue 2026.

Iran has filed a formal protest with the UN aviation watchdog, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) against US restrictions on Iranian aviation, as Tehran seeks to restore suspended flight routes.

GULF WAR:

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran has held further indirect talks with the United States through Qatari mediators in New York, with Washington’s formal response “hopefully” expected by Tuesday. Earlier, President Donald Trump also confirmed that US officials have met Iran war mediators.

US President Donald Trump says British police should not have released on bail five men who were arrested near an airbase used by the United States over a suspected bomb plot. Trump added that the case “might be” linked to Iran, but declined to give details.

Iraqi Airways resumed flights between Najaf and Iran following efforts led by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and protests the decision to suspend Iranian flights.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called for a full implementation of a framework agreement with Israel, “leading to the restoration of Lebanon’s full sovereignty”, in his meeting with Marco Rubio in Washington, DC.

After meeting Nawaf Salam, Rubio said that “the United States stands with a sovereign Lebanon, free from Hizballah [Hezbollah] and Iranian influence”.

Yemeni government forces have said they carried out 361 attacks against Houthi military targets across several governorates in Yemen over the past 24 hours.

The attacks resulted in 476 Houthi casualties and destroyed several control centers, weapons depots and vehicles belonging to the Houthi rebel group, the forces said in a statement.

NEPAL NEWS

Nepal is currently facing severe weather-induced disasters, with a series of deadly flash floods, landslides, and a major avalanche striking the country on September 28, 2026. This wave of extreme weather arrives just a month after a massive border disaster left more than 1,400 people dead.

Devastating Floods and Landslides:

• Death Toll Rising: At least 21 to 24 people have been killed and over a dozen remain missing due to torrential rains that began late last week.

• Mustang Mountain Collapse: In the northern Mustang district, dramatic footage captured a massive chunk of a hillside crumbling and crashing into the Kali Gandaki River near Lete within seconds. The debris briefly blocked the river before the water forced its way through.

Widespread Destruction: According to Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, nearly 750 families have been displaced, over 140 homes have been destroyed, and more than 49 districts remain under active flood warnings. Major transmission towers have collapsed, cutting off power and heavily disrupting key transportation routes.

Deadly Avalanche at Himlung Himal:

• Base Camp Disaster: Rescue operations intensified on Mount Himlung (a 7,126-metre peak in north-central Nepal) after a massive avalanche tore through the base camp during heavy storms.

• Casualties & Rescue: At least four climbers have been confirmed dead. Specialized teams from the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association managed to rescue 10 survivors from the snow-covered tents, while a frantic search continues for 12 people who remain missing.

TEJAS MK-2 medium-weight fighter prototype is now officially expected to fly no later than September 2027, while the stealthy fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is targeted for its first prototype flight in September 2028, Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed.

Hyderabad-based TakeMe2Space plans to launch India’s first networked orbital data center mission in 2028. The mission will use two 100-kilogram MOI (My Orbital Infrastructure) constellation satellites and a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch under the Waymaker 2 rideshare mission.
