Prime Minister Narendra Modi will
participate in the Centenary Celebrations of the Union Public Service
Commission (UPSC) today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He will also address
the gathering on the occasion.
New Delhi will host a textile conclave
today to discuss emerging technologies in the textile sector. Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh will
inaugurate the conclave.
The National Highways Authority of India,
or NHAI, is conducting special quality inspections of 17 under-construction
National Highway projects where the bid value was more than 15 percent lower
than the estimated project cost.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs
(CCEA) approved an increase in the
Minimum Support Prices (MSPs), for all mandated Rabi crops for the Marketing
Season 2027-28.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
has informed that 1600 crore rupees have been approved for 41 Pharma and
MedTech Innovation projects under the first round of the Promotion of Research
and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP).
The Centre sanctioned more than ₹1,200
crore under PM-RKVY to 10 states and announced Khet Bachao Abhiyan from October
22 to November 30, focusing on soil health and balanced fertiliser use.
FASTag Annual Pass has crossed one crore
passes issued since its August 2025 launch. The ₹3,075 pass offers one-year
validity or 200 toll plaza crossings at about 1,150 plazas.
UIDAI launched five new initiatives at
Aadhaar Samvaad Kolkata on Aadhaar Day 2026, including Face Authentication for
ePDS, SWIK Portal 2.0 and a Sub-AUA/Sub-KUA framework.
The government of Gujarat has now
reorganized the Porbandar forest division so that forest management could be
improved and the rehabilitation of Barda as a second habitat of the Asiatic
lions could be facilitated. This administrative restructuring has been
undertaken following the natural arrival of Asiatic lions back in Barda after
143 years.
The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD),
in collaboration with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of
India (CAG) launched CAG-BHASHINI
Anuvaad in New Delhi. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
said that the platform is an AI-enabled document translation solution developed
by BHASHINI to support the translation of official CAG documents and
audit-related reports.

• Nandigram By poll Clashes: The state's
challenge against Milan Pradhan (who faces charges related to the 2007 land
acquisition protests) is scheduled for 5 October, just a day before the 6
October assembly by polls.

• 38% DA Hike Takes Effect: The previously
announced Dearness Allowance (DA) increase to 38% for West Bengal state
government employees, school teachers, and public sector workers officially
comes into effect on 1 October.
• SRFTI Violence Probe: The newly formed
6-member Special Intensive Team (SIT), led by Kolkata Police Additional
Commissioner Kunal Agrawal, is expected to submit its initial findings on 1
October regarding the violent clashes between right-wing consumer group ABGP
and students at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI).

Prime Minister Modi held a telephonic conversation with US
President Trump. PM Modi and US President Donald Trump today reviewed bilateral

reaffirmed cooperation for a free, open, peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific,
including maritime security and freedom of navigation.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar
held discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on West Asia,
Ukraine, multilateralism and the impact of conflicts on the Global South.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has
once again cautioned Indian nationals against joining the Russian armed forces,
calling it a dangerous course of action. The advisory follows continued reports
of Indians being recruited through employment offers and intermediaries.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar
signed the UN Convention against Cybercrime recently on 25 September 2026,
strengthening international cooperation on cybercrime and electronic evidence.
Russia launched a major missile-and-drone
attack on Ukraine, with seven people reported killed and damage to energy
infrastructure. Power cuts were reported in several areas.
UK authorities said there are “strong
indications” of Iranian involvement in an incident near RAF Fairford. The
assessment is being investigated.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima
Zahra El Mansouri as the country’s first woman prime minister on September 29,
2026, following the September 23 parliamentary election.
Iran and Russian delegations have held
talks on enhancing cybersecurity and safeguarding critical infrastructure,
reports Iran’s IRNA news agency.
The ninth Deputy National Security
Adviser-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave, CSC, was hosted
virtually. The meeting was attended by representatives from Bangladesh,
Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Seychelles.
GULF WAR:
US President Donald Trump has once again
said the war in Iran will end very soon. Maybe “we blow them up, we make a
deal, but the time is coming,” Trump told reporters at the White House, adding
that “it will end very soon one way or the other”.
Iran says it has received a US response to
Tehran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the country’s senior
leaders reviewing Washington’s counterproposal.
US–Iran diplomacy: Indirect diplomatic
efforts between the United States and Iran remain focused on the conflict,
sanctions and regional security, including the Strait of Hormuz.
US troops leave Iraq: The United States has
completed its military withdrawal from Iraq under a previously agreed two-year
transition.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said
there are strong indications Iran had a role in the security incident near the
US-run Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford airbase. Iran has rejected the claim.
Saudi Minister of Defence Khalid bin Salman
says he held a call with his UK counterpart, Wes Streeting, in which they
discussed “strategic Défense relations” and “regional developments”.
NEPAL NEWS:
•
Over the last four days, intense monsoon downpours have triggered new
landslides. In Mustang and western districts like Baglung, entire
structures—including a two-storey ward office building—have collapsed into surging
rivers.
• Base Camp Avalanche: Concurrently, an
avalanche buried a base camp in the Himalayas, leaving 10 local workers missing
who were setting up tents for foreign climbers.
• Isolation: Major arterial highways and
village roads leading to the Tibetan border have been entirely obliterated.
Many devastated communities are completely cut off and can only be accessed by
helicopter.
• Utility Outages: Optical fibre lines and
local power grids have suffered severe damage, disrupting telecommunications
across multiple mountain districts.
• Reconstruction Cost: The Nepalese
government estimates rebuilding infrastructure will demand roughly $5 billion.
In response to the unprecedented scale of
the destruction, Nepal's government has formally requested $20 million in
immediate reparations from the UN Loss and Damage Fund. Prime Minister Balendra
Shah explicitly attributed the disaster to climate change, noting a 1.8-degree
temperature increase across the Himalayan region. Officials are demanding
climate justice and financial compensation from wealthier nations responsible
for global greenhouse gas emissions.
BALUCH NEWS:
• Mass Involuntary Disappearances: In a
report released on the eve of October 1, the Human Rights Department of the
Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) documented that 507 individuals were subjected
to enforced disappearance by Pakistani security forces and state-backed groups
during the first six months of 2026 alone.
• Extrajudicial Killings: The BYC report
also documented 150 unlawful killings within the same timeframe, painting a
stark picture of a deteriorating human rights landscape.
• Suppression of Protests: According to the
BYC human rights briefing, peaceful assemblies and demonstrations organized by
the families of victims have been systematically met with arbitrary arrests,
harassment, and severe movement restrictions by intelligence agencies.
• BLF Deploys Female Combat Unit: The Baluchistan
Liberation Front (BLF) released active media footage showcasing the first armed
operation by its newly formed female combat unit, the SCRD. The group claimed a
targeted ambush against a three-vehicle Pakistani military Quick Response Force
convoy on the CPEC Highway outside Turbat, resulting in nine military
fatalities.
• Widening Insurgency to Pashtun Districts:
Security analysts note that the Baloch conflict has rapidly breached
long-standing geographical boundaries, moving heavily into Baluchistan’s
Pashtun-majority districts like Pishin and Ziarat. The military’s
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) previously asserted that
counter-insurgency sweeps across Quetta, Noshki, and Mand had neutralised 73
militants, though local figures remain heavily disputed.
• Reports of Militia Use: Strategic
discussions have emerged detailing allegations that the Pakistani military may
be recruiting former Afghan security personnel to serve as auxiliary
anti-insurgent militias within the province, a claim heavily contested by
provincial politicians.
• Refinery Precautions: Highlighting the
province's strategic position, Pakistan's largest oil refiner—operating a major
facility on the Hub coast of Baluchistan—announced it has been directed by the
federal government to secure immediate crude oil buffers. This emergency
measure follows heightened war risks surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
CRIME & PUNISHMENT:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested fugitive
businessman Nirav Modi’s associate Sandeep Mistry following his extradition
from the UAE in connection with a multi-million-dollar Punjab National Bank
(PNB) scam.
• Mahua Moitra SC Plea: The Supreme Court
is scheduled to hear a petition filed by TMC MP Mahua Moitra alleging that
district administration officials in Nadia forcibly evicted her from a local
circuit house following political friction.
• Mamata Banerjee Electoral Suit: Chief
Minister Shuvendu Adhikari faces an 1 October deadline set by the Calcutta High
Court to submit his official written statement regarding the election petition
moved by Mamata Banerjee challenging his narrow victory in the 2026 Bhowanipore
Assembly election.
• Tribunal Judge Resignation: Highlighting
logistics hurdles in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter roll
dispute, Justice Chatterjee—head of the Murshidabad SIR tribunal—submitted his
resignation, citing the physical toll of a daily 80 km commute. Around 27.1
lakh voters were previously removed from the state rolls due to "logical
discrepancies".
MISHAPS: -
Five passengers were killed and five others
injured after a bus collided with a truck on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway
in Anand district .Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the Prime
Minister prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the incident.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change
Minister Bhupender Yadav today launched the Guidelines for the implementation
of the National Coastal Mission (NCM) 2.0, in New Delhi.
WEATHER:
Monsoon Withdrawal Rain: The India
Meteorological Department (IMD) has put West Bengal on heavy rainfall and
thunderstorm alert for 1 October as the final phase of the monsoon crosses the
region, bringing strong gusty winds.
GAMES & SPORTS
11th day, was the most successful day for
India in the Asian Games 2026 where Indian athletes won seven medals, four gold
and three bronzes. India got three gold medals from the compound archery and
one more gold from mixed team trap shooting by Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai.
India won three bronze medals through their boxing athletes Priya Ghanghas and
Kapil Pokhariya and through wrestling athlete Sunil Kumar.
In India’s compound archers got all the
three gold medals of the team category. India won the women’s team gold medals
through Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep while
India won the mixed team gold medals through Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil
Jadhav. India won the men’s team gold medals through Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal
and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru.
As of the end of the 11th day, India
achieved 60 medals, 10 gold, 21 silver and 29 bronze medals and came at eighth
place in the medal tally

congratulated Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai on bringing home the gold medal in
