• BJP Sweeps Key Assembly By polls: The Bharatiya Janata Party consolidated its political dominance in West Bengal. BJP candidate Hasirani Rath secured a historic victory in the politically significant Nandigram constituency, winning by a record margin of over 1.22 lakh votes against the Congress. Additionally, the BJP won a breakthrough in the Muslim-majority (74% MUSLIMS) Rejinagar seat in Murshidabad, where its candidate Shankharavh Sarkar defeated his closest rival by more than 75,000 votes. This proves BJP can win in Muslim majority seat in Bengal. This is personal achievement of Bengal CM.

• Mamata Banerjee Protests in Delhi: Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee travelled to Delhi to lead demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral malpractices and unfair roll revisions in Bengal. The protests drew a massive security deployment from the Delhi Police.

•  The West Bengal Government issued a formal advisory directing tea garden managements across the Hills, Terai, and Dooars regions to pay a 20% Puja bonus to eligible workers for the financial year.

• The Economic Influx: : This estimated to impact approximately four lakh permanent and temporary workers across nearly 300 tea estates. The total projected cash injection into the local market ranges between ₹300 crore and ₹400 crore, which local traders rely on to revive the festive economy during Durga Puja.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today to Navi Pillay, an Indian origin South African human rights lawyer and judge.

LAW, CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

Captain Smit Machchhar is recovering well in the hospital after suffering a depressed skull fracture and other injuries during a cockpit attack on Flydubai flight FZ1073 on September 30, 2026.

Mobility: He has shown strong early mobility and recently walked 10 to 15 steps in the hospital.

Neurological Condition: Doctors lifted his depressed skull fracture through surgery, and he is experiencing no reported seizures with intact sensory functions.

Prognosis: Medical evaluations indicate a steady recovery, though further neurological and health checks are required before any potential return to flying.

Smit Machchhar will receive Israel’s Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism.

• Supreme Court Action on Deleted Voters: The Supreme Court of India intervened regarding the controversial deletion of West Bengal voters from electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The apex court directed tribunals to expedite and prioritize appeals from citizens seeking the re-inclusion of their names so they can legally participate in the state's upcoming civic body elections.

• ED Investigations: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) expanded its cross-border financial crackdown, executing multiple raids at premises across West Bengal and Odisha linked to a major sub-inspector recruitment question paper leak case.

• Anti-Corruption Crackdown: In Kolkata, the state's Anti-Corruption Branch executed a successful trap operation at the Beltala RTO, arresting a senior transport official and a middleman caught accepting a ₹90,000 bribe for bus permit renewals.

Madhya Pradesh OBC Reservation: The Madhya Pradesh High Court struck down a 27% OBC reservation provision, describing the law as unconstitutional and passed in undue haste.

The Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking the disqualification of 21 AIADMK legislators.

JNU dismissed Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, A CONGRESS MP, over sexual harassment allegations following an internal committee inquiry. At least 11 female students reportedly filed complaints in May, alleging Akoijam invited them to his residence for harassment and made inappropriate remarks.

MISHAPS: -

A fire broke out in the medicine room of the Government Civil Hospital affiliated with the Medical College in Godhra, Gujarat. The event prompted the evacuation of more than 200 patients, including pregnant women. Firefighters and police rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. There were casualties in the incident while preliminary investigations suggest a fire from a short circuit.
