 KHALISTANI--GANGSTER NEXUS

Multi-state crackdown: --

  • In a multi-state crackdown, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained several members of a nexus of Khalistani terrorists, gangsters and drug-smugglers.
  • Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, U.P., Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and H.P. are covered.
  • Till 27th, 53 locations were raided during the day-long operation, which started Wednesday morning.
  • Pistols, ammunition, large numbers of digital devices and incriminating material, and Cash-- were seized during the raids across the states stated above.

On radar: -

  • The raids were related to cases lodged against the associates of Arsh Dalla, a listed terrorist, and many dreaded gangsters, a spokesperson of the federal agency said.
  • Besides Dalla, others under the NIA scanner in these raids were notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Sukha Duneke, Harry Maur, Narender alias Lali, Kala Jatheri and Deepak Tinu, the spokesperson said.
  • According to news reports, they are suspected to have links with Khalistani terrorists, in and outside INDIA.

Action so far: -

  • The raids were the seventh in the series that began in August 2022 after NIA registered five cases, including two against organised criminal gangs.
  • The agency has so far frozen 87 bank accounts, attached 13 properties and seized 331 digital devices, 418 documents and two vehicles, news agencies reported.

The probe: -

  • NIA investigation indicates conspiracies being hatched in jails of different states, and subsequently executed by an organised network of operatives based abroad.
  • Notable among such conspiracies were the sensational killing of Maharashtra builder Sanjay Biyani, mining trader Mehal Singh and international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambia in Punjab in 2022.

Meanwhile...

  • External Affairs Minister Mr. S Jaishankar, in a rebuke to the allegations levelled by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, denied India's involvement in the murder case of -Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He said, "This is not the government of India's policy."
  • Mr. Jaishankar further said that Canada has created a "very permissive" environment for extremism and organised crime because of political expediency.
