BLIND : INDIAN LEGAL & INVESTIGATION SYSTEM

CASE--34

SARASIJ MAJUMDER

Could you remember Neelam Katara, a 64 year old Braveheart who fought to bring justice to her son, Nitish Katara who was abducted and brutally murdered by power drunk youngsters.

In 2002, Nitish was at a wedding with his love  Bharathi Yadav and later was abducted by Bharathi’s brothers Vikas and Vishal Yadav. The next day, Nitish’s body was found beaten to a pulp and burnt. In this case, Neelam Katara, his mother,  was not up against two common criminals. She was up against the sons of DP Yadav, a criminal, don and obviously a politician. READ “ D. P. Yadav - Wikipedia

The eyewitnesses to the murder case quickly changed their statements and denied seeing Vishal and Vikas Yadav on the crime scene(**Can’t blame them when their life is at stake**). Bharathi Yadav, Nitish’s girlfriend never made it to the court for 4 years ! Finally when she showed up to court she denied any relationship with Nitish. (**Wow**)

After years of fight, Vishal and Vikas Yadav were convicted in 2008. But the story doesn’t end here.

Vikas Yadav was granted bail 66 times in the first two years ! Neelam Katara was stronger than DP Yadav or his sons, or  thought of her to be. She made her stand and she was not moving an inch without getting justice to the murder of her son. She even added that, “This fight is not for my son, It’s against honour killing and honour crimes”. Finally Yadav brothers were brought to justice after 13 years .

13 years !

During her debate in Times Now, she mentions this . “ I’m 60 and I was 50 when this case started . And I know now that if I were to die tomorrow, they’d be out in 5 days”.

As Indians, we know how true this is and we know what power drunk and rich youngsters are capable of doing in our country. Neelam Katara got justice to the murder of her son after 13 years by sheer GRIT, and she is also resourceful.

13 years, my countrymen  ! That’s a year short of Lord Ram’s exile.

No cheers for our legal system ! There are many such instances!

Cheers to the Lady Neelam Katara !
