“83”—AN ALMOST FORGOTTEN FILM

Based on the India national cricket team led by Kapil Dev, which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, Film “83” was made.

Release date: 24 December 2021 (India)

Director: Kabir Khan

Budget: ₹225–270 crore

Box office: est. ₹193.73 crore

Distributed by: PVR Inox Pictures

The film received widespread critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike, praising the performances of the cast, screenplay, direction and technical aspects. However, the film was unsuccessful at the Indian box office, although it became the highest grossing Hindi film of 2021 in overseas.

While many are familiar with the fact that in the movie 83, Mohinder Amarnath had played the role of his father but here's some more interesting facts about its cast.

The roles of Windies players were played by some Carribbean Cricketers themselves.

  1. Jacques Taylor played the role of Vivian Richards and he is a domestic cricketer in Windies.
  2. But things get interesting from here. Gordon Greenidge’s role was played by his son Carl Greenidge who's also a cricketer.
  3. The role of Malcom Marshall was also played by his son Mali Marshall.
  4. The role of Joel Garner was played by Jason Lloyd who is the son of Clive Lloyd.
  5. And finally, the role of Larry Gomes was played by none other than Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of Shivanarine Chanderpaul.

The role of Sandeep Patil was probably played by his son Chirag Patil, who's an actor.
