INDIA: (GOI, SWARAJYA, VISHWAMITRA, HINDU POST, INDIA TODAY).

1.      The 16th Rozgar Mela will be held at 47 locations across the country:  PM Modi will distribute more than 51 thousand appointment letters to newly appointed youth in various Government departments and organisations through video conferencing today. 

2.      Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting on Yamuna rejuvenation in New Delhi yesterday. 

3.      The Government is planning to roll out a one thousand 345 crore rupee subsidy scheme to promote the production of rare earth magnets in the country. Inter-ministerial consultations are underway in this regard.

4.      Jaishankar to visit China this weekend on a three-day trip to the country starting July 13, for SCO meeting, his first visit to country since 2020 standoff. He will also hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

5.      During the bilateral talks in Beijing, both Jaishankar and Wang are expected to discuss a range of issues, including rare earth supplies to India, resuming direct flights between the two countries, Dalai Lama's succession and India-Pakistan tensions, Bloomberg reported.

6.      International Buddhist Confederation will host conference on Sunday to mark 90th birth anniversary of 14th Dalai Lama.

7.      NPCI International Payments Limited has announced significant progress in expanding India’s Unified Payments Interface acceptance across the United Arab Emirates, unveiling strategic initiatives to deepen the digital payment platform’s integration as both countries strengthen their financial connectivity.

8.      Kumar Mangalam Birla Joins US-India Business Forum Board. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, was appointed to the Executive Committee of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum.

A.0 RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR.

a.      Neither Russia nor Ukraine, aided by NATO, can finish the war on the battlefield. It will end at the negotiating table. More delay will hurt RUSSIANS at the table.

b.      Trump told NBC yesterday that he’d struck a deal with NATO to distribute weapons and that the alliance would “reimburse the full cost.”

c.       NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte posted on social media Thursday that he had spoken to Trump and was now “working closely with Allies to get Ukraine the help they need.”

d.      Two unnamed sources told Reuters that the Trump administration would for the first time use a presidential drawdown authority that the Joe Biden administration often invoked to help Ukraine, which allows for withdrawing arms from U.S. stockpiles for allies in emergencies.

e.       U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters from Malaysia yesterday, said Washington was “actively” in conversation with European countries about sharing Patriot batteries with Ukraine.

f.        The sources added that the package could be worth $300 million.

g.      In Italy, European leaders convened yesterday for an annual conference on Ukraine’s recovery. They announced a new equity fund and private-public partnerships anticipated to result in around $12 billion in investments.

B.0 USA—AFRICA NEGOTIATIONS:

Trump pressed the presidents of five African countries to accept deported migrants from the United States while hosting the leaders this week. At the three-day White House gathering, Trump has sought to deepen economic ties, predominantly through “shifting aid to trade.” It has not gone entirely smoothly.

C.0 IRAN-ISREL:

Israeli intelligence indicates that Iran could retrieve some uranium from the three nuclear sites that the U.S. and Israel attacked last month, an unnamed Israeli official told media in Washington. The official added that such retrieval attempts would likely be detected, and that Israel believes Iran’s nuclear program was set back by about two years. Separately, the AP has reported that Iran’s retaliatory strike on a U.S. air base in Qatar had hit a dome that stored communications equipment. 

D.0 TARIFF WAR:

Trump unveiled a 35 percent tariff on Canadian imports yesterday for an August 1 deadline, reigniting trade tensions with one of the United States’ biggest trading partners. The move exempts goods covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Meanwhile, Brazil pledged yesterday to counter Trump’s threatened levies with a matching 50 percent tariff of its own. 

E.0 UK-France deals:

French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced two deals. The first is a nuclear security agreement that will have the allies work together to deploy weapons if Europe comes under major threat. The second is a migration deal to address English Channel crossings; as part of this pact, the UK will return some migrants to France in exchange for an equal number of migrants from France that have closer ties to the UK.

HERITAGE:

UNESCO removed three important heritage sites in Madagascar, Egypt, and Libya from its World Heritage in Danger List. This happened during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris.

TERRORRISM: -

Defence sources said Jammu districts like Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch had the presence of around 40 to 50 terrorists, largely Pakistanis. Army has intensified anti-terror operations to neutralize them at the earliest, said officials familiar with the development. “They belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba terror outfits.”

On June 7, a terrorist guide was captured along the LoC in Rajouri district.

Mohammed Arif Ahmed, of Datote in Nikiyal area of Kotli district in PoK, was captured by troops near forward Hajura post while he was guiding a group to a safe haven in India in Gambhir area of Rajouri district.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key conspirator wanted in the ISIS Pune sleeper module case. NIA said in a statement that the 11th accused Rizwan Ali along with the 10 other accused had conspired to commit a series of terror acts to destabilise the country and spread communal disharmony. Rizwan had carried a reward of 3 lakh rupees for information leading to his capture. 

Twenty two Maoists surrender at Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh. 

In Jammu & Kashmir, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids at three locations in Jammu, Doda, and Handwara as part of a terror financing probe. The searches targeted a conspiracy involving cross-border funding through cryptocurrency to fuel terrorism and destabilize peace.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully coordinated the return of Kubbawala Mustafa from UAE through INTERPOL Channels. Kubbawala Mustafa is wanted by Mumbai Police on the allegations of operating from abroad a Synthetc Drug Manufacturing Factory at Sangli. More than 126 kg of Mephedrone drugs worth over 25 lakh rupees was recovered and confiscated from the said factory linked to Kubbawala Mustafa and others.

Gujarat’s Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that the government has conducted a high-level investigation into the Vadodara bridge incident. According to the preliminary report of the investigation committee, the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge collapsed due to a pedestrian and articulation crush. 

MISHAPS: -

Torrential monsoon rains and flash floods have claimed ​around 100 lives and left 185 others injured across ​Pakistan ​in the last weeks. Pakistan​ National Disaster Management Authority said that eight people were killed and 27 others injured in rain-related accidents in the past 24 hours. 

At least nine passengers were abducted and killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The attack occurred near Zhob, where armed assailants stopped passenger buses, checked identity cards, and selectively shot victims. 

ENVIRONMENTAL: -

MET. Department in Uttarakhand forecasts yellow alert of rain in state till July 15.  An orange alert of rain has been issued in Dehradun, Nainital and Bageshwar on July 13.

Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) reached a preliminary conclusion that a supraglacial lake outburst in China caused Tuesday’s devastating flood from the Lhende Stream in Rasuwa. According to satellite data, the flood was likely triggered by the bursting of a supraglacial lake located about 36 kilometres north of the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi, at an altitude of around 5,150 meters.
