HEAT WAVE AND EFFECT IN EUROPE:

Wildfires & Outages in the Balkans: The extreme weather has sparked widespread wildfires across the Balkan peninsula. The fires, combined with localized grid strain from peak air conditioning loads, are creating severe power deficits and regional distribution faults.

Western Europe (France, Spain, Italy): Having just borne the brunt of the heatwave's initial wave, power systems here remain severely stressed. Record demand for air conditioning has triggered spot price spikes in European electricity markets. The immediate weather crisis highlights a deeper, structural flaw in the European Union’s energy transition layout and infrastructure bottlenecks.

According to the European Commission's Grid Action Plan, nearly 40% of Europe’s distribution grids are over 40 years old.
